A CL game used to be a special event, one you'd stay in to see no matter who was playing. Now its not unusual for me to miss every single game bar the knockout. Shame.

Great way of putting it Sclox, it did use to be an event.

It's all get as many clubs in for the money. . . .but in the same vein then devaluing it because there is so many.

It has been diluted and it’s now an inferior product.

Didn’t see this thread before starting the other one.
The new format is dead boring. They’ve managed to drain all the excitement out of the top teams in Europe playing each other.
I expect this format to be binned as soon as UEFA deem enough time has passed before making it look like an embarrassing U-turn from them.

It’s a classic case of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Just because these games generated huge interest and revenues it doesn’t mean that you can just play more and more of them and get the same returns from each one.

I think the Super League would be similar. The PL is a unique product and each game a ‘package’ containing tradition, unique clubs, fast football and English supporters. The top 6 think it’s all about them but, the fact is, that without the other 14, their appeal will fall dramatically. The glamour of the galacticos playing each other would soon ware off - I’ll stick to the PL, so let them go.

Super league could be a massive mistake. Only galacticos as long as the sponsors keep stumping up the cash… and they’ll only do that if their fans are watching.

With no ‘true’ away support in the stadiums as fans can’t afford to take 2/3 days off work every other week never mind the expense of tickets and travel, the stadiums will be void of any atmosphere.

Home fans will get sick of seeing the same matches every single season, where winning and losing, doesn’t actually matter anymore!

Mentioned in the other thread, I’d love to see a true cup tournament… no seeding system, balls in a jar, one game knockout and see some real matches where every game matters.

Big match ups from the very start, giant killings due to one great (or sh!te) performance.

Proper FA cup magic… no divine right for any team to make it through to the next leg!

Every season will be different, it won’t just be the same old teams in the 8 of the competition as they may have met in round 1
