    Square Pegs in Round Holes

Just some thoughts after last night's game....

Without doubt, it was a very poor performance last night. But, on paper I do believe we have some good players. It's just not gelling at all as a team..

IMO, there is a technically gifted player in Hannibal, but he’s not a number 10. He didn't look at all comfortable playing there last night, and Flemming isn't a Striker. Also, I was astounded that he dropped Laurent, he's the best central midfield we have. Some might say I am being a tad harsh, but for me Cullen is too negative with the ball. He goes backwards far to much, and it hinders our intensity in the middle of the park. I'm also beginning to think Koleosho needs a spell on the bench, his distribution is atrocious, and he loses the ball too much. I'd be looking at giving Sarmiento a look in.

Also, we are desperate for two proper strikers. I firmly believe our promotion aspirations hinge on it. If we get 2 strikers in January, we still have good chance of going up. If we don't, I think we've got no chance, as it'll just carry on as it is now, with some decent individuals, but no team cohesion.

With current personnel, In Midfield I think the following gives a better balance.

    Hannibal Laurent

    Sarmiento Brownhill Anthony

    Flemming

Moving forward however with potential new additions, we maybe better with.

    Brownhill Laurent

    Tresor/Benson/Koleosho Flemming Anthony/Sarmiento

    New Striker

You see the games as I do Corner , Sarmiento didn’t make the bench yesterday ( injured ? ).

Lauren is as you say a competitive tidy footballer with strength and mobility ( can’t see how he misses out tbh ) he also goes beyond the forwards did at Wednesday and tried last night when he came on.

I don’t believe Koleosho is doing anything wrong tbh his final ball needs improving agreed but if he had movement and runs in front of him to drag defenders and defences around a bit he’d improve again as it is we don’t have that.
Fleming is not a up top man at all and I can see he’s a made no 10 in the hole - he looks a bit heavy still to me but did ok and took his header well, I’d like to see Foster play with him behind him I think that could be quite potent if it gets a chance to develop.

It’s a difficult conundrum with Cullen as I think Parker is asking him to do that job but we don’t seem to have the balance right at all - I’d like to see Hannibal in front of the defence which may force Cullen to play a little higher up the pitch ( it’s not like he can’t pick a pass ) all that receiving with backs to play and blindly kicking across our own area has to stop though imo anyway.

Pires I think isn’t the strongest defender but carries the ball forward well and is decent on the ball - however a left back is required ( though Humphrey’s did well at Wednesday playing on his strongest foot ).

Observation on last night were midfield didn’t get a grip
Of the game until late on the and didn’t protect the full backs at all - Roberts and Pires exposed too much for me.

I should pay Hull a compliment tbh as they had us worked out -after. 15 mins as we continued to offer nothing -

I’m not quite sure what’s missing at the minute if it’s a focal point striker or our build up play and shape - but I think BT alluded to it our football isn’t VK championship football last time around, we need to address the issues and I get Parker using the squad to try and find the solutions but for me the strongest players have to start , not be in Saturday and our Tuesday even if they performed well ( Lauren - Humphrey’s - Sarmiento ).
