Romared Match Thoughts Barnsley v Bristol Rovers

Progression , prize money and the opportunity to win a money spinning tie in round three against one of the PL heavyweights .

    A home win wouldn't go a miss either .

The tingle of waking up with an FA Cup match to come today.

Look out for kids carrying cardboard FA Cups wrapped in foil, bakers displaying specially made FA Cup shaped gingerbread biscuits, and many a shop festooned in red and white bunting. Where did I put the flat cap to throw in the air, the heyf time woodbines to smooak whilst p1ssing under the Brewery Stand, and the wooden rattle ?

That was a match day experience.

The 8 million pa black hole in the finances is still there. Need another lucky away draw at a big crowd club such as Arsenal with 40% of gate money to reduce the need for too many sales this January. Just need to beat Bristol first.

It might be me , but I just cannot get myself up for any of the cup competitions , I think the the top clubs have over the years totally devalued domestic cup matches and I am afraid for myself total apathy has set in , of course I want us to win as I do every time we take the field but whatever the result is today it will not bother me one jot, when considering the fact that I used to love cup days it makes it a bit sad but hey that is just me , hopefully from a club finance point of view a win would be beneficial however the thought of getting another embarrassing beating from one of the elite is not one I relish , regarding todays actual match we are more than capable of going through but that will depend on how the Tinker Man views it , team selection will tell us more, if he once again puts a weak side out as he has done in previous cup matches this season then Bristol will go through , to me it is simply down to team selection ,2pm will tell me more.

Only the non league club's still buy in to the FA Cup these days SB and once we reach round four the competition dies of death .

There's the odd Newport County v Spurs tie to lighten the doom but generally speaking the competition is a shadow of what it once was .

Even the replays are no more which were part of the fabric of this once great competition .

You just get the impression that certain club's treat it today much like I do when I have to oblige to certain family commitments , the " oh great " smile hides what's in my soul when I'd really like to be doing something else on a Sunday afternoon .

    TODAYS LINE UP:

    BEN KILLIP
    MARC ROBERTS
    MAL DE GEVIGNEY
    COREY O'KEEFFE
    ADAM PHILLIPS
    GEORGIE GENT
    JOSH EARL
    DAVIS KEILLOR-DUNN
    STEPHEN HUMPHRYS
    LUCA CONNELL
    KELECHI NWAKALI

SUBS: SMITH, COTTER, RUSSELL, PINES, COSGROVE, JALO, LOFTHOUSE, CRAIG, MCCARTHY

Reds look to be going strong with just one change from the last league game, Kelechi Nwakali starting in place of Jon Russell.

This FA Cup game is another total blackout here on the Blanca.
Can?t get over exited about I have to say with a nice warm and sunny afternoon to navigate.
Looking forward to reading the comments from the lads that go.

Another game where we have 4,000 shots and don?t win. There seems to be a pattern emerging. After the window, I thought our attacking lineup was quite well rounded we had a big lad in Cosgrove, running in behind with Watters, good with the ball at his feet Humphrys, DKD technically good and Phillips who pops up with goals. Phillips is due a goal and the rest seem to regularly forget their shooting boots. I know that goalscorers are rough tough to recruit but it should be our main target for January. Early January too. None of this messing about all window to sign someone on deadline day, get a striker in as soon as we can.

120 minutes played too before we play Wrexham and Birmingham in the same week.

I haven’t been so could somebody tell me why Connell didn’t take a pen? Captain and the player who take 90% of our free kick?
    I just don’t get it

Well that's a potential couple of million quid down the plug hole which given the state of the club's finances is a bit of a pysser .

Not going to go down the road of digging players out because they are what they are relative to the club's budget and although at times Clarke doesn't always help himself he's very much the career lower league manager his salary demands say he is until such times come along when the game finally dispenses with him .

I've said it before and I'll say it again , Daniel Stendel's league one promotion team is the benchmark and we are way off that .

Anyone thinking we have some kind of miracle recruitment process going on with the present budget constrictions may want to compare Stendel's team to the current one .

The bigger money will always prevail more times than it doesn't but clearly that ship has now sailed and currently we are what we are .

I don't have any answers that will change everything around and in fact the club's problems go way deeper than losing an FA Cup tie on penalties .

Sometimes mistakes are so fundamentally damaging of which this club has made many that it's almost impossible to come back from unless there is massive change .

I suspect that's where we are right now .

In fairness, his last 2 penalties have been shockers.

Philips is our penalty taker on a match day and he managed to miss and then we have Earle taking one, penalty shoot outs are a lottery , questions should be asked about the previous 120 minutes not the shoot out ,that is why we have not progressed .
