    Andrew Neil suggested

that we should consider doing away with the Army, Navy and RAF and getting them all together like the Israel Defence Force. Apparently we have far too many chiefs and need a radical way of reducing the inefficiencies. Any ex military posters on here have an opinion? Also seems that we need air defence based on missiles to shoot down possible missiles from hostiles.

In my opinion Andrew Neil is correct.

We are being invaded daily on our south coast, strangely enuf the army, navy and air force have done nothing. Obviously ordered by the government to turn a blind eye.

This is treason on a grand scale, nobody wants th3se people here, nobody wants these people here. Nobody was given a choice, politicians must answer for this.

It's really not the role of the armed forces to protect our south coast against illegal immigration. That's a political / civil matter and why we have Border Control.

Or if you prefer, we don't have border control.

Is it daft to have the Army,Navy, and RAF all having separate command structures? Surely there has to be complete integration at the planning stage for a project, why should the command structure be split into the separate forces?

They all work together and strategically at the top level in the MOD as it is. Yes they're technically separate entities but if you think of them as business units all working under the same corporate headquarters (MOD) you'll get it.

If it became one Integrated Defence Force you'd still need to stream into various entities with specialisms and would have the same types at the top of each stream. You wouldn't want some low IQ Pongo grunt servicing your fleet of millions of pounds worth of high tech jets would you? Or a transporter pilot leading a brigade into battle?

Only difference that it would make would be in the titles of ranks which would be standardised where now they have different titles with equivalent status.

Read a comment that London will get an air shield but the rest of us might/will not. Think we need a bit more public input into the debate. Don't think this should be a political party driven issue.
