    Open day trials

Pardon my ignorance as it is something I don't follow regarding this with the Millers. Does the club still run 'Open day trials'?

What's prompted me to raise this question, is that I was watching the Coventry v Leeds game last night. When half time came they continued the first half debate in the Elland Road club studio. There in the background, hanging from the stands, were very large banners highlighting the 'Open day trials' that were to be held in February for 16 - 18 year olds.

I recall back in the day when Ronnie and Brecks were at the helm and the club held open day trials at Rawmarsh St Josephs, as my Son attended one.

Do we still have a trials or do we let any promising local talent just get sucked up by the likes of Utd, Weds, Barnsley, Donny etc?

Yes, we know the Leeds set up is light years in front of us but, they are holding other Open Day trials on the 21st of this month for 6 -15 year olds. If we don't hold such things anymore, is there any wonder why we never find those 'local' hidden gems?

Does RUFC have a scouting system in place? Mmm, can't see it.

As I posted on another thread....
"Might have to bring a few lads in from Sunday league/ non league football to fill the gaps. There must be at least one decent right full back and striker available. They couldn't be any worse than what we've got at the moment."

    That was written in jest.
    Or was it?

However, we should definitely look at having trials for prospective players with the proviso they are good enough.

I'm now waiting for some wit to say that not many players want to play for us when there's the Massives and Blades down the road.

    Thanks for that.
Just wondering when the club scouts find a diamond or two in the rough to compete with the current crop of players?
Maybe the scouts have their hands tied too?
After all, looks like the budget has already been blown. Who knows?

Curious state of affairs down at NYS.
Just hope we've not given up and start waving a white flag before every match.

No Rice with the deal then? Too much money. He plays for Arsenal. As for Currie, he's long been retired from football and works as an Ambassador for the Blades. Players with their skills would've been very welcome additions to our playing squad.
I'll say it first. Money's too tight to mention and we've got Hucknall* left in the budget.
