    Vertu Trophy

    Chesterfield v Rotherham 7PM Tonight
Not very important as far as the season goes but it has been good for us previously !
One thing for sure if we can get one over Chessie then we are definitely in for a good season ?

I still think this trophy is very important to Rotherham United and clubs like us. It is the only trophy that we are ever likely to win, except a L1 or L2 championship. It is a Wembley appearance (yes i know we had low attendances previously. Success breeds success, doing well in any competition builds momentum and confidence. It is our centenary as well so winning this marks that occasion very well. It is very unlikely we will make the play-offs this season.
We are 10 points off 6th place after 24 games (22 games left), we would have to win 3 more games than Barnsley and 4 more than Reading also there are 6 teams between us and 6th place all of which have to do worse than us. None of the teams above us have an away record as bad as us and we have only won 2 away from home and we have 11 more of those to play including 3 of them against current top 6 teams. It is more likely that if we continue with the form we have had over the last 8 games we will finish between 6th and 10th. With all that in mind why don't we put some focus on something we can win and as fans take some pride from winning something we are capable of.
I know it is a flawed trophy but it is winnable.

Evans will see it as an opportunity for a run out for the second string. I agree. The priority is the league and we need to avoid injuries. Don't be defeatist about our promotion chances. A good run will see us climb fast. Look at Leyton Orient. Plus we should be getting some additions.
That said, I will still be watching tonight.

I agree - it's always memorable to get the family down from Rotherham, meet up in that big pub near the stadium, have a laugh and watch us win a pot. Big game as far as I'm concerned. Come on Millers!

Hehe. We don't have a 2nd string. Didn't someone post we only have 16 players to choose from 😏

Obviously it might not happen (probably won't) but, if we do get to Wembley, I think our following could be embarrassingly low. It does seem to drop every time we go there. Partly because we've done it all before also, in my opinion, the club don't do nearly enough to sell the game.
Nobody seems to be responsible for marketing the event - the attitude seems to be "We've got there - now it's all up to you"
The first time we went shops were encouraged to have Millers window displays etc. Now nothing seems to be done to hype it up.
Tickets are not easy to buy for some people - who would like to go down to NYS and buy them in the old-fashioned way.
I would still go but not too fussed if we get knocked out - but not tonight! My wife's family come from Chessie and I want the bragging rights

Au contraire... until very recently ALL we have had was a second string 🤣
Let's hope we are getting restrung now!

I remarked that it wasn’t very important to us from my observations on the Chesterfields website where it appeared they had only sold about 500 tickets ? and I would be surprised if we take more than 150 !!

900+ Millers there according to the commentator.
