    O/T:- Irony or ...?

On the day that the last Battle of Britain RAF pilot dies, two elected dictators discuss carving eastern Europe for their own gain. As near to the 1930's sell out by the weak Allies and bully Hitler (with his then hidden ally, Stalin) as you could get. As before, appeasement, with the only benefit being time to re-arm. Shame on self serving politicians, duplicitous Germany and Italy - will no one learn from history?

Boring.......Why don't you send your kids to the Ukraine to fight on behalf of 'freedom' then if you're so keen to carry it on. I bet there are many Ukrainian and Russian mothers and fathers who are happier at this agreement than what you and you're lot want to happen.

I forgot to add. It never amazes me how people with an agenda pick on certain parts of history to suit their argument.

Your idea was what was adopted in the First World War - that didn't go too well did it?

If the Soviets were Germany?s secret ally, then what does that make the British, French and Polish when they agreed with Germany to carve up Czehloslovakia? I guess that makes them overt allied partners.

When you talk about this agreement, who is actually agreeing?

... isn't it funny(sad)... you highlight a moment when - imo - one force for good meets a force for bad and someone jumps on the topic to lecture. This moment in history mirrors, to quite an extent, the failures of politicians in the 1930's when, after a murderous war costing millions of lives, politicians couldn't/wouldn't learn that, to preserve peace you have to preserve the ability to hit back at bullies. What happened then, has happened now is that capitalism dropped its guard in the interests of greed above safety and securuty. This had been mostly dealt with during what became known as the 'Cold War', ie., at considerable expence the so-called West faced up to the Communist east. The result of this was that the broad doctrine of communism failed (and don't go on about that it was not communism); Capitalism is now well into its failure mode and as predictable, a bully has popped up in the east to take his chance; nothing to do with communism.
With no ability now to face the bully, Putin, we've had to go into appeasement mode in order to buy time to rebuild stocks of armaments. When will anyone learn that you can't have a sensible discussion with a bully; you have to play the game their way...and it will cost lives, again, unless someone takes radical action with a pistol (although the Russians, as ever, tend to go for poison).
It's not boring to highlight a truth... so Mr Lullapie, you can sod off to Russia and see how far you get with your freedom of speech.
And Mr Andy6025, you can disappear up your own backside playing with your detais. Of course we were totally wrong in the pre-WW2 carve up; but no-one dare tell the truth of the moment/all lied about the situation.
Thank whatever god you may have that the Polish and Czech pilots found their way to England and played a major role in the BoB

It is the real adversaries responsible for this war that are talking to one another. We all know that Ukraine is just a proxy that does what it is told by its benefactor. Besides, Zelensky has long admitted that they cannot hold out for a long time without US support.

Whether they will reach an agreement soon, I do not know. I suspect Trump is in way over his head, but I am hopeful that detente between the US and Russia will lead to positive outcomes in cooling tensions and, hopefully, working together in the future to resolve some serious issues facing humanity.
