    Here's the full announcement...

In 2023, following a directive from the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) to implement safe standing at Meadow Lane, we surveyed the fanbase to gain an understanding of supporters’ views on the subject.

Since its inception, one of the key arguments for safe standing has been its perceived benefits towards the matchday atmosphere, while it has also helped reduce friction between fans and stewards with regards to standing in seated areas.

We received nearly 2,800 responses to our survey, with 73% of fans being in favour of safe standing, 16% against and 11% undecided.

When only considering responses from those who usually sit in the Arctic Cabins Kop, the number of supporters in favour rose to 82% – and with a significant number of fans who usually sit in the Derek Pavis and Family stands telling us that they’d consider moving to another stand to take advantage of safe standing, this gave us a clear indication that:

    • The majority of fans would like to see safe standing installed at Meadow Lane
    • The best location for a safe standing area would be in the Arctic Cabins Kop

We have been in continued dialogue with the SGSA to identify how we can successfully deliver this project – and we can now announce plans to install a section of safe standing in the upper section of the Arctic Cabins Kop ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The safe standing area will run the full width of the stand to ensure sight lines aren’t compromised, with the number of rows (starting from the back of the stand) being subject to demand.

Season ticket holders will today have received an email from us, inviting them to give us an indication as to whether they would like to be positioned in the safe standing area in 2025-26.

A further update will follow in due course.

If the home games this season are anything to go by we should be installing some safe sleeping.

Back in the day, when all grounds had standing areas, the mixed areas were always standing at the front, seats at the back. I can't think of a ground that had the reverse arrangement.

For it to make a significant difference to the atmosphere, I would have thought you'd need the standing support close to the action. The kop would be amazing if it was all standing, I'd like to think this will be the first step to achieving that.

This was my thoughts exactly I can't imagine any change in atmosphere with standing at the back you need to be as near the pitch and players as possible.
I used to love it when you could walk round the pitch and change ends at half time.
Anyway how could you throw pennies in the half time canvas stetchers from the back.🤣

The obvious place is at the back that way you aren't impeding anyones view, I, as somebody who would struggle to stand through a full game & also has memories of struggling to get a decent view from terracing ( 2 slipped discs & a bit of a short arse) wouldn't like to see all standing but do think fans should have the choice, I just hope that fans, like the young lad in front of me use the facility rather than staying where they are & bugger everybody else, we have had words in the past. Yes you quite obviously need the more vocal standing support closer to the pitch if you want to improve the atmosphere. Back of the Kop is miles away from the action. Wrong choice.
It would reduce capacity though because some of the seats behind them wouldnt be able to see.
We could do with more of the vocal supporters in the Pavis me thinks. Even if they were at the back. Can?t see the bros joining in though.

The question is, is it though. What if the sound reverberates around better from the rear of the stand?

Maybe they need to test both options and see which is actually better.
