    Feint hopes remain

    Well then,

United's win at Tynecastle keeps the top six door open, just.

We need to beat Hearts and hope that St Mirren fail to beat Ross County next week.

    Odds against I fear.

Jwok. Hearts played with 10 men for best part of an hour and still had 15 shots with 7 on target. We played with 10 men and had 4 shots with 1 on target against Killie. There has been nothing in the last two games that gives me the slightest bit of optimism that this group of players are capable of getting the necessary result against Hearts. To have any hope of success we would to be adventurous and have a real go from the start, something sadly we have managed once this season

I just couldn't see how we were going to create chances on Saturday. With the personnel we have available, I can't see how it's going to be much different against Hearts. I have to confess that, immediately after Saturday's display, I'd settled for staying in the league, never mind getting into the top six.
But by the time I reached the car, hope had replaced despair on the basis that they cannae be as bad again.......

Hearts are certainly massive favourites but there have been upsets before. I'm not entirely sure they'll be as up for it as we will (or should) be. Sixth to us is a major achievement, sixth to them perhaps gives Critchley some credit but is basically still complete failure. And fifth is out of sight. A cup final, on the other hand, is all sorts of redemption and while I don't expect them to play the reserves and phone it in (a la May 22), it's only natural they'll have an eye on Hampden.

The issue is not just that we don't create much, because you always have the chance of a set piece, deflection etc, but there's no way we're going to a keep a clean sheet. Even conceding one will be a challenge tbh which leaves us needing to nick two. Difficult.
