SBRed Match Thoughts Barnsley v Bolton Wanderers

I can't remember from our point of view a less low key game against Bolton Wanderers .

Pretty much every time we've ever played them over the years there was always something of real importance riding on this game and I'm going back to 96/97 and the PL season too .

I can't see anything other than a Bolton victory even though I don't think they are anything special this season it's just the fact they have way more to play for than we have and are going to be backed by around 4k fans .

Yes animal, we’ll have a big backing because a win is essential for us if we’re to keep pace with the top,six aspiration. After Tuesdays quite incredible loss at home to Rotherham a win is even more important. I think we’re all still trying to fathom quite how we lost that game even after giving away a very soft goal. I don’t think any of us have ever seen such a one sided game and quite how we didn’t score is incredible. Anyway, I’m sure that the players will want to put that right tomorrow but we’re so up and down this year you can’t rely on anything. As for yourselves, it’s hard to understand how you’ve underperformed so badly as you still have some quality players in Luca, Philips and Keillor-Dunn and of course our nemesis Humphreys so we can’t take anything for granted. We score a few somehow but concede a lot so anything can happen and although the game is largely irrelevant to you it’s critical to us so I’m expecting a similar game to Rotherham but just hoping the results different!!

We have had some big games against Bolton in recent seasons. Some going our way, others not so much. It?s been a good little rivalry.

For this game though I am not that bothered. I like games where there?s something riding on the outcome of the result to get the passion going. You can kind of ?feel it? inside the stadium. Our season has been done a while and I can?t wait for it to be over so I can get my blind optimism back?

I will still be at Oakwell on Saturday though. At least the weather looks great for it.

I think deep down we all probably know the outcome, loyalty often clouds opinion and we can look through red glasses but the reality is that Bolton have better players than us and that is why the league table shows the difference , we are a mid table outfit whilst Bolton are once again a top 6 outfit pushing for promotion , the reality is that Bolton have to go for the win and have the motivation and the tools to do the job , whilst we are playing for nothing more than pride with an inferior team , I see nothing more than a fairly predictable win for Bolton with my only hope being that we try to make a fist of it and do not end up with another battering and keep the scoreline respectable, unlike most I will be taking my seat at Oakwell and hope that I see an enjoyable game and a decent performance from the lads .

All the games now until the end of the season are only interesting in as much as watching for changes in playing style and formation.
Plus there?s the interest in players that we haven?t seen much of:
    Flavell
    Fabio
    Bland
    Lewis
    Rodrigues

The result dosent really matter at this stage.

Frankly my dears, I couldn?t give a damn.
The council are shutting the lower seam, ( where we always get spaces??. And putting fairy lights in??. And this will drive folk into more expensive places to park?. We rely on this as its always got spaces (albeit not many ) for folk travelling ?in? who work till late before matches.
Will make my mind up wether to attend tomorrow ( in person, not as a statistic) at 1300?. Chances are its a no

Yeah its unusual for us to have nothing but pride to play for, when Bolton come to town!.
And whether their loss to Rotherham will have them up for it even more, we'll see.
I don't want us to give the job to Conor (not yet, not for another 18 months at least), but its looking like they probably will.
And knowing this lot, they'll probably give it to him because he's apparently a cheap option. Rather than him being the best option!. 😕

I'm having none of this nothing to play for malarkey or the result doesn't matter .

For starters the paying fans deserve to see the players running through brick walls at a minimum , it's the least you should expect along with professional pride .

Secondly futures are on the line , who today wants to be at the club and who wants to drive it forward ?

Thirdly let's respect the competition for God's sake and make sure we do our bit and ensure Bolton have to dig deep for the points today and a play off place .

Do I expect to see any of the above this afternoon ? , probably not .

The current culture around the club is none of those things I've listed and until such times that changes we will sink even further .

Standards and professionalism don't exist on Grove Street which is why we are where we are .

The team gave up what little fight they had 7 games ago away at Charlton.

They've been going through the motions since then. Today I don't expect it to be anything else. Even money odds for a Bolton win is certainly good value in my eyes.
