The Bros and an alternative view

I've seen the new thread "Playing the devils advocate." but I think this topic is sufficiently different to warrant its own as we go in search of understanding what is happening.

The Bros are very logical, methodical and not swayed by immediate emotions, but they will act when they see that they need to. They also have good analysis on the volumes of data that they must amass.

I posit that before Christmas they realised everything was not in place for them to be confident that we would be a successful League One side and that another attempt would likely be needed next season. Accordingly they allowed Crowley to go as he would have anyway and they let the coaching staff go without really bringing in replacements and they let Montague go. Instead they had their mind set on having a longer term view on how the footballing side is run accepting that a failed manager might need help or that a successful manager would end up moving upwards and onwards, hence the appointment of Roberto Gagliardi as Head of Football.

We clearly have a better squad than at the end of last season, especially defence, and some promising youngsters. I'd expect to see further improvements during the close season. A worry being that if we do end up getting promoted some opportunities may have been missed.

The Bros do not have our impatience. This year has been better than last. One little more notch of improvement sees us with the basics of a League 1 side.

If something along these lines is not the right answer then I'm left befuddled as to why we are were we are as it doesn't otherwise make sense.

I think this is one of the most sensible posts I have seen on here in quite a while.

The key part is about The Bros and their overall outlook, tolerance and patience.

Personally, I do not think the above is the alternative view; it is the view of sense and long term planning.

    Good work Old Pie.

Pasted my post from the advocate one.
If, as mentioned above, the information available indicates we have the 12th best budget (and assuming last season was the same +/- ?1 or two) then that goes a long way to explaining (to me) why there was a reluctance in both January windows to address the immediate issues we had at that point. We made one signing in each window, AJ in 24 and MT this year and considering the work done in replacing the defence in 24/25 it suggests that the cycle is; close season rebuild strongly, the following January there may be a bit available and should be spent on a prospect if we are safe in the league? IF that is how they work then surely we are looking at a rebuild across the middle in the coming close season?
With defence and midfield sorted and the attacking pairing sorted (MT covering AJ/DM) next season is the season!
Assuming of course we don't get promoted this season but if we do then we are firing on all cylinders and looking at going straight through L1.

    P.S. Don't disappoint me folks!

They are definitely evolution over revolution which has to be the best approach. My feeling is that they will look at the data at the end of the season and then decisions will be made, and I don't think they avoid difficult decisions, but they will behave honourably and fairly. I can imagine there will be a lot of difficult decisions to be made, but if we keep on doing what we are doing we will go up and then go up again. It just may take several years to do so.

Because we evolve, but we don't... revolve.

Its looking likely, unless some disastrous drop off happens, that we will have the highest average attendances in league 2 next season.

Will we still have the 12th highest budget? (If thats what it is, I have my doubts).

There is much to commend the original post and a lot I agree with. I'd take (relatively minor) issue with the part I have left above. It assumes that all our players are at least at the same standard as last year. I'd argue that Jones is a way below last year's level (almost certainly entirely because of injuries but the question remains whether he can recover in a league where the Barney Rubble defenders are assisted by the Fred Flinstone refs), Didz has been outstanding but surely (surely?) he must be in decline. The biggest shame is that injuries (or playing style) have caught up with Matty Palmer who is a shadow of the player he was pre-injury. Additionally we shouldn't let our ire get in the way of evaluating Cowley who was mostly brilliant and was the spark who ignited the serious changes in pace to our attacking play without which we are pretty pedestrian. I know he's young but I'd be inclined to see if Jarvis can play more centrally in the creative role.

Of the 3 you mention the only one they "let go" was Crowley. They could have kept him if they wanted. Perhaps they wanted the money more?
Montague had been poached and he was never going to stay.
    The coaches were dismissed.
So like you I am befuddled.

I know the Reedtz Brothers have done a great job since they took over, and the background investment they have put into the club in the new sound system, new pitch, padel courts and The Nest should serve us well for years to come. But only success on the pitch will retain or improve our impressive attendances. Nobody wants to go back to the sh!t or bust approach we've seen before, but if we're still in this league next season and don't have a top 5 budget on the pitch then questions need to be asked of the owners.

If we fail to get promoted over the next few weeks then this season will be the first major mess-up by the owners.
We have had the second highest gates for two years solid now and they need to realise this and not take the fan base for granted.
Spending several seasons in this crap league is NOT sufficient for Notts County Football Club.
