Man chitty played quite a bit of that today.
They lost.
See VAR was working well again.
Pay attention Billy.
The game evolves & pace rules again, aptly demonstrated by Palace at Wembley.
Such football puts the 'wow' factor back into spectator sport as in dogged defending & direct swift attacks when in possession.
This mentality is characterized by a belief in their ability to compete & win against any opponent even those with more resources or a better reputation.
The elements of Palaces winning mentality is to focus on every game & they emphasise the importance of taking each game as a chance to win regardless of the opponent - not sure Leeds fans including yourself would back such a Bielsa freestyle style attitude 'tho ?
But Palace have to fill their stadium as they have lots of competition in London but as a kid growing up their area they always give local kids a chance starting with free match tickets handed out to schools, so often unearth some genuine exciting talent too.
As I stated prior, now in PL passing out from the back has started to become counterproductive as opponents become increasingly adept at setting pressing traps, so its all change again.
Football again is entering one of those crux periods in which it is clear something has to change but its not quite obvious what ?
But watching all the current top European leagues this season then its very clear that the new approach is often more direct speculative balls into the channels for runners to latch onto which I mentioned before Christmas 2024 was what DF was trying to impose upon Leeds at that moment in time.
Top Series A forwards Christian Pulisic at AC Milan & Retegui of Atalanta are classic examples who feed off such attempts to exploit spaces inside the final third through recurrent penetrations, especially from the wings which is now the trend in French, Italian & Spanish leagues this season.

MT,
Not the veteran of analyzing tactics and strategies that you are but have definitely noticed a more direct approach the last year or so. I personally find it better and easier on the eyes.
I do understand the logic of backing the ball off to get a feel for where you can penetrate the defense. However, I think it's gone way overboard. Mindlessly pushing the ball back around the defense really does little to penetrate the defense of a team that's "parking the bus" the entire match.
The solomons, james, gnontos and even the firpos, bogles of the world cause way more havoc that just moving the ball to open spaces and searching. You need a blend of both but so often teams revert to the lazy tactic of ball possession and the other team is more than happy to let it happen since they are waiting for the one chance to counterattack and score.
Was glad to see Palace win. Good for Football.

Fair comment.
Not looking forward to VAR again.
It's altered the game so much. Still believe the answer is better officials, training and frankly the ability to strike a certain ref from doing your games. The reality is that if enough officials were voted down the FA would know who's poor and who's not. This is a case of free market doing what the FA cannot.
The union is the next worst thing that's happened to the game behind VAR. Some real clowns that should have been fired years ago and they just keep getting work that could go to much better, up and coming, refs.
Suspect allowing a bit more physicality back into the game has helped with other tactics coming to the fore. When you got booked for sneezing in the vicinity of a player tippy tappy ruled the waves but being able to challenge allows other models to work. I also suspect that the gazillions of hours of analysis has also led to a better understanding of what works to counter it.
