    Feeling Good

In the immortal words of Nina Simone.

"It's a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life for me... yeah,
It's a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life for me, ooh, And I'm feeling good!

We as a fanbase have to get over the feeling anxiety before every big match.

That Sunderland 'til I die clip "why is it always us?" That sad auld boot, heart broken springs to mind.

Misery loves company. We left the pity party to join the cool kids at Chad Hogan's Spring Break Pool party
    - for those not familiar with Kevin Bridges hysterical stand up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vwWYRfYhSA

Once upon a time in a land called Sports Directshire, we were a team full of journeyman and middling cloggers.

Our current squad, teeming with full internationals from the world of footballs more decorated nations.

We have winners across the team and despite injuries to many of our squad players we proved once again more than a match for a club that has out spent up 10-20 time to 1 over the last 10 seasons.

A double over Chelsea, for the first time since 1986-87. As near damn it 40 yrs.

The Credit in the Eddie Howe thread is justly deserved.

Not to get over confident, or arrogant. We are where we deserve to be by beating the teams we have beaten this season. We have won the League Cup because we were the best team in the competition this season.

The winning mentality and the change in psychology from domestic abuse victims at the hands of our previous owners to trophy wife of our new long term stable relationship.

We aren't the roller coaster, emotional basket case, punchline of the English footballing establishment anymore.

We're not hear to take part, we're hear to take over - Conor McGregor

Chelsea were blown away by us for the first 30 mins. I was never worried that they were gonna score. The only 3 shots on target, I only remember 2.

We've beaten Liverpool in the cup final. We've beaten Arsenal 3 times. We've done the double over the filth and deservedly so!

People need to start realising that this is literally NEWcastle United.

Head up, shoulders back. We are the club to be feared, we are the club that has all the momentum.

We are the club everyone now dreads playing home or away. We should carry that mentality with us.

Only the Champions have scored more goals (83) than us (68).

Only the Champions have won more games (25) than us (20).

We're only one of two clubs to win more than 20 games this season.

We played the whole season, pretty much, without Botman. Botman being, arguably, the main reason we qualified for the UCL in his first full season.

The club hasn't signed a first team player since Tonali in the summer of 22/23.

What we have achieved, thus far, is exceptional.

We need good signings to flesh out the squad with like for like quality this summer.

It's a great time to be a Geordie.

I get the point, but Chelsea can play very good football if the turn up, and the second half was a very nervous time 😉

I think for me, when we have the first 11? or fewer forced square-peg-round-hole selections I am confident we can beat anyone.

We?re still a couple of transfer windows away from having the kind of squad depth that will allow it, not a criticism of anyone; club, Howe, players, but it?s just a fact we are punching way above our weight with the squad we have? not the first 11, we are about where we should be in my opinion but a lot of that is down to having all 3 available the vast majority of the season? they are the fulcrum the team plays around and the platform we have built our success this season on? that is not downplaying the role everyone else has played mind, but they are the key to our success.

Depth in midfield is now one of my biggest concerns, we can bring Miley on as a player, but I think Longstaff and Willock are too big a step down from the first choice 3? we really struggle to control games if any of the first 3 are missing, and I?d say a first team level midfielder is a must for the summer, especially with European football of some form guaranteed now? the extra fixtures will cost us if we can?t rotate them and give them a break with an extra midweek game most weeks for at least the first half of the season.

Both Willock and Longstaff have been linked with moves away. That looks more and more likely with every passing week.

We will see the temper of calibre of Mitchell's Mettle this summer. The upgrades that a team with title ambitions and the determination to repeatedly compete in & go deep in the Champions League have to come in this summer window.

We've got the PSR bandwidth. It's clearly a big challenge but I think winning the cup and once again competing in the UCL will provide a pathway to bring in the quality of players we need to achieve those lofty goals!

Eddie Howe is clearly the man to bring that top tier football to the club, he needs to be backed!

A great post Raga. You are right. We need a shift in mentality from hoping to beat cartel clubs to expecting to. This mindset doesn't need to be an arrogant one standing on everyone to feel good about yourself.

We are formidable against the cartel. Its the Brghton/Bournemouth/Fulham games we need to step up and that may come with more depth as Ian rightly says. Finish second, keep what we have, add 3 or 4 quality players which we will need if we get CL as Ian also rightly says and a title challenge isn't a silly idea next year.

I fully expect to get a result next week and a draw would still be a good one.

    What a feeling eh?

    Winning breeds winning.

Breaking the duck with the League Cup win is the new standard. The lads are winners. They want more.

It's clear that Eddie knows how to beat teams from any level of football. What he needs is a varied tool box of quality players that he can switch in and out depending on the opponent.

We need to have 25 players that are not just making up numbers. Our 1-11 is a very strong group.

    12-25 is pretty ropey.

We need to get in 5 players that will potentially sit the starting 11 player on the bench.

Barnes sat Gordon down for a few weeks. We need that in every position to truly be a force in Europe as well as the Prem.

Love the positivity and agree, it?s almost mind blowing how far and fast the club has advanced since Howe arrived. The squad is still a work in progress though - with a European competition to add to the fixture list next season its essential to add depth otherwise itll be too difficult, physically, for the players even without bad injuries.
Keep Eddie, keep getting the recruitment right and with the youngsters coming through - the skys the limit with or without PSR.

We should fear no team is my point.

We have gone toe to toe with all of them and beaten the best of them. 3 times in the case of the gooners, Spuds are our whipping boys once again like the 90s, the filth are joke we'll dominate them from here on out, Beat Liverpool to the Cup.

When we face teams do so as equals or as favourites, home or away. No team likes to play us. A few have beaten us at points, no one is perfect but we have nothing to fear from Villa and we will beat them as often as they beat us.

We hammered Villa 3-0 at SJP in Novemeber. Last season it was a bigger beating. So it's tit of tat with the Brummies.

We have nothing to fear. We are the fear!
