Lille's Freebies - The interesting prospect of Angel Gomes & Jonathan David

It appears that today England international Angel Gomes has, like Jonathan David, has confirmed his decision to leave Lille on a free contract to become a free agent.

We've profiled David often and I like him to challenge Isak for that starting birth up top. I do hope we're in for him / in with a shout of getting him.

Our own former Les Dogue / The Mastiff (Lille's nickname) Sven Botman responded to both players announcements on social media.

A couple of high quality free transfers with experience playing together and playing alongside one of our star players Botman would be excellent business. Both would help the other settle in and Botman's presences also give the home club familiarity.

Selling Willock for this lad who prefers the left side would be an interesting upgrade - Willock is the blue. Angel offers a lot of versatility in role and position. Also, He's a year younger than Willock and hasn't suffered the levels of injuries Joe has experienced.

We have Miley to replace Longstaff when he departs this summer. We need to bring in maybe one more CMF to ensure 3 first team players & 3 pushing them. In guess the 3rd we need is a more natural No.6 a destroyer if Angel is gonna replace Joelinton and replace a destroyer with a technician, the Tonali replacement should be more a player who will break up play and distribute.

    what do you lads thinks?

With you on both. We need to upgrade the squad with players who could realistically also be considered starters alongside our current 11. It opens up competition but also bad feeling for those who don't start.

Its where we need to be however. Its essential and the players need to be up for the fight in this circumstance and not throw the toys out. Its healthy.

I would be cautious about signing players who purposely run down their contracts at a previous club. Says something about their character that I think. Could they do that to us?

May I am reading too much into that.

The character of players is paramount importance. David has come out publicly and stated that he expects to fight for his place and doesn't expect to start every match for a top club. That's exactly the mentality we need to bring in to compete with Isak. Means that they'll remain motivated and not get the hump when they aren't selected.

We have anywhere between 48 + 60 odd matches to play next season depending on how far we go in the domestic cups and the KO stages of the UCL.

Isak can't play them all. We absolutely need a player who is going to push him whilst also buying into the squad ethos and Esprit de Corps

Angel Gomes is a little bit different. He's a technician, very good on the ball and very different profile to that of our current stock of midfielders.

Eddie Needs a tool box of players to chose from depending on who we are competing against.

I'd love to see us swoop for both, they'd certainly be happy to have their old teammate onboard with them and be reunited with Botman.

The Lille spine of NUFC could be a reality!
