I would recommend a bit of perspective on the situation.
Who's spending?
Chelsea - Always spaffing their wade. Somehow they still have wades to spaff, but the rules have holes as wide as the Kings road. No surprise at all. Plus they're in the World club Cup, which this never before short term temporary transfer window for. So the competition no one is interested in can try and leech more talent to make it slightly more interesting.
City - Poor season for them, a rebuild was always on the cards, Plus they're too in the World club Cup. Yet they pulled out of the Wirtz deal due to the insane price tag. City, walk away from a transfer because it's too rich for their blood? That should be seen as far more significant that NEWCASTLE AINT SIGNED ANYONE, WE'RE A JOKE.
Liverpool - League winners, pots of cash, the swagger of champions and that new title smell wafting in the nostrils of potential targets. Needed to replace TAA desperately. Doing that. Looks like they're getting their pants pulled right down and romanced without lube by Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Ze former Nazi chemical warfare and human torture agency turned pharmacy's football club are insisting on 150m Euros. They've rejected 125m Euros.
We are not in this kind of conversation and nor should we be.
The Filth - Like a drunken uncle clutching the winnings of a 5 horse acca, these clowns have staggered into the transfer market in usual fashion and throwing the winnings on the floor as they trip up the step.
Eddie Howe - "We are have to act quickly and decisively"
What does he mean?
He doens't mean we do like the filth are doing. Go out and sign players well above their value and throw insane salaries at them. That's not what he meant at all.
Let's take Joao Pedro as an example. We had him signed from Watford. It was done. He was waiting to travel to do his medical at NUFC.
Why we didn't sign him? What happened?
NUFC decided against the transfer due to a better option becoming available.
In short Sociedad changed their mind and decided half way through the window to accept the Isak bid.
What did NUFC do? They acted quickly and decisively to get their 1st choice target that summer.
What's going on in the world of football right now?
Aside from the club involved in this World Club Cup & A few desperate clubs - the filth.
Most of the clubs our targets are at are on holiday or are doing their end of season audits. When the window opens again on the 16th is when all the clubs across Europe will begin their work on transfers.
We all want to sign players and we've all got favourites. We've got wrapped up in the hype which is addictive. Bryan Bummo would have been great to Newcastle United, don't get me wrong but the 65-70m quid doesnt at all represent value. The quarter of a million quid a week wage is frankly insane.
I think we all need to take a leaf from Eddie Howe's book and not get too high when things are good and too low when things don't go our way.
