I think the latter. Someone is going to rock up and make everyone go 'woah!' because they hadn't been on our radar but are a big star.

According to Fab Romero, a man who is looking credibility faster than a labour council enquiry, stated that Scalvini is 'Newcastle United's dream signing'.
Pretty sure he said the same thing about Nicol? Barella 5 days before Sandro Tonali turned up on Tyneside. I get the hunch that this lad is the club leaking information to the press as a smoke screen for the real target.
I also have the same thought about Elanga. I don't know why about this one, I just get the feeling that whilst he's good mates with the NUFC lads, he's very happy at Forest and they really like him. They aren't in any need to sell so, I get the feeling that he might not be that man to replace Miggy and bring competition to Murphy's position in the first team.
What do you lot recon? Scalvini coming to the toon or we gonna see a player come out of nowhere, a-la Sandro, Alex & Bruno?

There has to be more gems in Italy
Would rather Elanga then the rumours of Grealish and Rashford but Forest have turned down our 45m bid so move on and look elsewhere.
There absolutely NO WAY Grealish or Rashford will be signing for Newcastle United. Not a chance.
Don't know if the club will return with a higher bid. More than 50m quid doesn't make sense to me. Good player but 55m is getting a bit pricey.
Let's see what happens.
Did anyone else?

Snippet from TuttoAtalanta reads: ‘Giorgio Scalvini is untouchable. Atalanta has forcefully reiterated its NO to Newcastle, who in recent days has tested the waters for the central defender from Bergamo, offering significant figures.
‘The Goddess’ response was dry: between 40 and 50 million, a valuation that far exceeds the player’s current market value.
‘Despite last season’s injuries, in fact, the Nerazzurri club considers the 2003-born player an asset on which to base the defense of the future.’
So let's get this straight...
Seria A also ran, Atalanta is the 9th-most supported club in Italy, with 1 Scudetto, 1 Italian Cup & 1 Europa League title come out and state 'forcefully reiterated its NO to Newcastle' and the media are all are confirming that Newcastle United have no chance of signing the player.
Yet the same media are running every Gordon, Isak, Bruno, Tino and anyone else leaving Newcastle United as fast as possible story?
Make it make sense. LOL absolutel BS.
I genuinely believe this is a smoke screen for our real target hence the title.
Could Matteo Gabbia could this season's Tonali as Giorgi Scalvini - This seasons Nicolo Barella?

I would be very happy with that signing. Gabbia is superb.

Looking at Matteo Gabbia, it could make sense. Milan finished 8th after a disastrous season. They are in financial trouble and will be motivated to sell some talent. We've already done good business with Milan for Tonali and there is that relationship in place. Who knows. Would be one hell of a coup to bring in Gabbia. Some serious European pedigree should we bring him to Tyneside.
Gabii
I agree on Scalvini being a smokescreen - feels very Tonali esque.
Elanga - I think that is a genuine thing and that we want him but I also think we won't go much over ?50 million for him.
A day on from the Scalvini news and a night to mull it over. He's valued at 34m Euro. Plays across the back line but the one thing people have pointed at is his injury record.
I heard it was an ACL that saw him miss most of last season.
A lot reoccurring knee & shoulder injuries. The lad from the clips I've watched really looks like a young Jonathan Woodgate. A really top top quality player who will be dogged by injuries through out his whole career.
We can only go on the evidence today and the last 2 yrs as the lad has stepped up into full competitive first team football it looks like he's just not got the physicality to handle the wear and tear at the Elite level.
Proceed with Caution would be my take. We just can't have players out injured for most of the season, the squad is not big enough.
Thigh problems, Abductor problems (abductor is the lateral muscle inside the hip bone which relates to the thigh problems), Hamstring muscle injury (again thigh region), Cruciate ligament tear (the player starts to move and turn and run in a different way due to the pervious injuries, either due to physical discomfort or subconsciously as he doesn't want to repeat his injury).
That whole muscle group, Knee to abdominals seems to be a problem for the lad. As it's core muscle groups it could be rather difficult to strengthen. I'm no expert but it seems very similar to the issues that plagued Woodgate and Ledley King.

We've already got one CB who's injured way too often...
