Liam Rosenior has been handed a massive 6 and a half year contract to manage Chelsea. They are renowned for handing out big contracts but is this a bridge too far in the fast demanding world of football?
Rosenior's Managerial record speaks of nothing....
Interim Manager at Derby
Hull City Manager
Strasborg FC
Hardly anything of significance to warrant such a massive deal. Makes you wonder just how much money is involved at Chelsea.
They (Blueco) own both clubs, so I suspect they've been impressed by his work in Ligue 1 and decided it was a cheap option whilst being in keeping with their desire to bring younger players through. He's also nicely placed to dip into Strasbourg's squad to hand pick (for basically no cost) players who will suit the PL.
To answer the exam question, I think contracts mean even less when you start looking at multi-club ownership, where Strasbourg (in this case) feel the pain of managers being 'promoted' to the bigger clubs and the finances around that move will suit only the parent company's wider plans, rather than land them a huge compensation payout. It's time multi-club ownership was binned, hugely unethical.
Whistle the Dean Martin tune….. if your trophies are nil and you have spent 30 mil, that’s Amorim!
Football has gone crazy.
On the face of Rosenior has lucked out here, there must dozens of better qualified managers out there.
But good luck to him, think he'll need it.
