    Exeter Board Issue Statement

To basically say they are doing everything they can to improve the precarious form and League position and that Gary Caldwell is having all the support he needs. It's not even the dreaded vote of confidence that managers generally have before they are sacked. With MT leaving yesterday, the timing of this statement seems odd. Will be interesting to see how this one unfolds.

Surely that can only be temporary, when did a new manager take on the existing coaching team ? They always want their own people

Which makes it even more weird they are still here.

They are obviously living month to month

Or we want them to leave voluntarily so we don’t have big payouts in settlement of contract

Interesting point GTOM. I wonder how a Manager's contract works? Surely his payout depends on whether when he is next employed by a club or indeed any other form of employment. If he was on 1k a week for the next 3 years then to pay the contract up would cost 156k but if Exeter employed him next week then surely his salary there would be deducted from the pay-off.You can't have 2 jobs at once!

Depends what sort of contract it is,there could be a 1,2,3 months etc severance clause..

In another piece of twist,we are probably still paying Exeter for Taylor and the gang in the first place.

I would have thought there would be a compromise agreement with Taylor, ie an agreed amount of money but with agreed restrictions such as not slagging off the club in the press.

In high tech companies it’s quite common to include a clause that prevents working for a direct competitor for a period ( say 6 months) but that type of clause is basically unworkable in football

Yes it is.Kenny jackett was not allowed to manage another club for 6 months when he left here, but the wording meant he was able to coach an under 21 side.
