    Don't ask Exeter, ask me

Been using Combofix for years. It's not a bad bit of kit, but it does give you a pretty heavy disclaimer that if it f's your OS up, tough t*tty.

This would suggest that you have a PC problem.

Prob not what you want to hear - but all a much of a muchness tbh.

I've used them all, incl. Combofix which is nuke style on virus removal to the point as stated before it can completely knacker the Windows install (but to be honest if you're using it you've got something a bit nasty anyway).

I've seen some horrible virus's, one the other week despite using all the trick's was replicating many instances of legitimate Windows Explorer, of which those processes where communicating through a Firewall to many many external IP addresses. Needless to say it came off the network PDQ, and although Combofix got the machine usable it didn't remove it entirely - so I had to do an image reinstall anyway.

The best defense you can have is to get yourself to a stage where a Windows reinstall would be no biggy.

That involves separating your data folders (My Docs etc), so they reside on another partition or drive, and utilising imaging software such as Acronis. So if you do get something nasty jus

To be fair, I deal more with Network and website security these days.

    Far more lucrative

The power of adding a .htaccess file in the back end of a website admin panel to block all ip adresses except the client, and myself. Good money for very little work.

You are still with me Exeter?

Yes I'd say that would stop attacks and bots from going to a wp-admin page or /admin page or other generic well known backend url's to have a go as many times as they please.
