Kevin Hector: The Greatest Ever Derby Player

...as voted by Derby County fans.

A A?10k signing from Bradford Park Avenue. What would he be worth today? And only one England Cap. The Revie Factor? - view external link

Well, it was A?40K I think. A lot in those days. Great signing by Tim Ward and a fantastic servant of the club. More talent and class than the modern day millionaires. He so nearly scored in his 5 minutes of England duty against Poland.
I'm surprised Toddy didn't poll more votes. He was some player too.

Zac, Mac, Todd, and Hinton a hard call who claims it, the core of the team. All different players but all were special talents!

re: Kevin Hector: The Greatest Ever Derby Player

I remember watching his first game for us after his move from Park Avenue His speed and balance was incridable. He left the Huddersfield defenders standing. We won 4-3 with Alan Durban, an unrated player at the time scoring a hat trick and King Kev getting the other. In the team was Ron Webster and Peter Daniel. Cloughie inherited some good players from Tim Ward. Kevin got jaundice later that season, I think, and it took him some weeks to get his speed back but what a great players and gentleman. I can't remember him getting booked.

Yes King Kevin was the best id ever seen in a Derby shirt at that time, worshipped the guy.
Would he do well in these times, sadly I think not.
His balance and ball control were excellent but he was one dimensional and to small to be any good in the air,i think he would have trouble in this game where an out and out striker has to do more than wait for the ball.

Having said that when he came to Derby he was so inspiring,so exciting he was just so much better than expected that supporters of that era will remember him forever.

Plus a real nice man, bless him.

Alan Hinton is my favourite Rams player but it is impossible to begrudge Kevin Hector the honour of topping the poll.

It is virtually unimaginable that we will have a future player who misses only 4 starts in seven consecutive seasons.
