Huge, you're talking in excess of 100 million quid, even if you go up and down.
That amount brings stability to any club.

With Cardiff and the other relegated teams receiving circa A?60 million for being relegated (which is more than Man U got for winning the prem last year) just how important is us to go up. it will be incredibly difficult to compete next year with this ridiculous inequality. This is such a big opportunity c'mon you rams...

Yes exactly and creates a gulf that is very difficult to bridge. Interesting to see if Cardiff Fulham and Norwich are able to bounce straight back. Let's hope not
Sorry boys just read Cardiff thread so kill this one !
It's a different question, my thread just highlighted the fact that Cardiff are wasting no time and clearly mean business for next season, which will obviously effect us if we lose the final.Originally Posted by minesahartington
I think it's extremely important, not just for the money, but for holding on to our stars who have done well this season, plus when you get an opportunity to get promotion, whether you think the squad is ready or not you ****ing take it!!!
Thanks mate. I realise different but it was getting onto the same topic. It's going to be so tough. You could have discounted Cardiff whilst they are run by a lunatic but it seems they are already setting out their stall! Don't want to put too much pressure on the lads but this could make us for the next decade
Really hope if we go up we can do a Stoke. Obviously I'm not in awe of Stoke City and do not love them as a football club but they got promoted the season we went down, with a squad nobody really tipped for promotion and have had steady progress, finally amounting to a top half finish this year, and I can't see them going down any time soon. Plus an FA Cup final thrown in there, they've done very well, and I'd love to see us go the same way, but do it by playing much better football. Just the small matter of winning the play-off final first though.Originally Posted by minesahartington
We have to go up this season. We may not get another chance for a while depending upon other clubs, losing key players, form, injuries etc. So the pressure is immense - and that's the problem - can our young players handle it? Wish it was happening this weekend - the wait is too long.
I said this last time we went up. Its too early and we will overspend come down and the squad will be torn to pieces. Oddly I said it would put ius back 5 years. It did and more!
People then say we can go straight back up. Look over the last few years at clubs coming down not many go straight back up.
Fester have taken a few seasons to build a squad that can compete and be complimented. I just dont think we are strong enough in depth.
I think with Rush saying niavely we wont need to make big changes it would be one step forward thre, four or five back.
Build and go for automatic promotion next year.
*****!
Whilst Rattea make's a good point about instant relegation being a big step back, that is only if it is handled in the wrong way. It is possible to come down, trim the squad of it's big earners and get a Championship challenging style squad in and still bank some money. it's teams who hold on to their big players in the hope of a quick return that often go tits up.
If we don't go up I expect to lose Hughes, Bryson, Hendrick at least. We will need to re-build again and not have any extra funds (relatively). Teams will also be more aware of how we play, so a new style may be needed.
Really important we go up, and I would have faith in SMC et al to make a few sensible additions and make a much better fist of it than we did in 07/08
