Evening Kempo. Apologies for not making it to your dinner party last month. As I am sure you are aware I had a couple of 'episodes' in early June which meant that I have been 'resting' under the care of Dr Weiss.

The first thing I noticed was that every where I went, a scout from Napoli was pestering me to sign for them next season. Apparently they have earmarked me for the role of holding midfielder! This might not seem so strange to you as you have witnessed my talents for C Wing in the 5 a sides last year. No, what was strange was that it was an actual 'scout' complete with woggle and badges for knot tying and cooking. Issues were further confused when I opened the fridge one morning and the scout was stood there motionless in the milk bottles wearing a Rafa Benitez mask.

My second episode involved a skin irritation on my hand. There was a patch of skin which didn't seem the same colour as the rest. Day by day this skin started creeping up my arm and the patch grew bigger and bigg

Well done IBS...reading your post I can see that you have improved since I last saw you at the CBT group when you sat on the lap of the nice lady counsellor and could not be talked down from your idea that you were John The Baptist.

Say what you will but I think my diet of wild honey and locusts played a major part in getting well again.

If this is in the sense that the great Leonard Cohen meant it...I'm not entirely sure.

I await his further enlightenment with keen anticipation.

i think its a scientology reference zil but with IBS it could be anything.

Kempo and Zil you are both right.

Cohen attended a number of scientology meetings in the early 70's and attended meetings mainly because he was told it was a good place to pick up women.

Cohen will have no doubt heard the term "going clear" at these meetings which refers to a state of being when all emotional angst, shame, guilt, neuroses evaporate, leaving a person without the voice of their perpetual, internal critic chattering away in their heads. We could liken 'going clear' to the Buddhist's 'nirvana' or 'enlightenment'.

Cohen then incorporated the phrase into his song, "famous blue raincoat".

In 1978 in Bristol...spookily enough a place for Scientologists I attended a party at the nurses home..

At said party I had a suck on some blotting paper and pretty sure that I went clear for a time...Does this count?

The only time that I had similar was two years previously when I had a few too many plastic cups of Hirondelle wine... again nurses were involved at a notorious flat in Clifton.

I'm glad you elaborated on this IBS as it had me confused and as it's the time of year for school sports days took me back to the time when I went 'clear' of the field in the sack race for 3 of the 4 years at junior school. The one year I made the mistake of qualifying for the 50yd dash ended in a disappointing last place finish.

I think this experience has turned out to be a metaphor for my life
