    Best signs - confirmed

LEON Best is to join Derby County on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker could train with his new team-mates today.

Derby have been searching for competition and cover for last season’s top scorer, Chris Martin.

They showed interest in Lukas Jutkiewicz before he left Middlesbrough to join newly-promoted Burnley.

Rams head coach Steve McClaren said after Saturday’s victory over Rangers that he was hoping to add one or two players to the squad ahead of the opening Championship game against Rotherham United.

“We certainly are because we feel we’re short in one or two positions,” he said.

Best, born in Nottingham, has hit 59 goals in 251 games in his career.

The Republic of Ireland international started his career at Southampton and has also played for Coventry City and Newcastle United.

He scored five goals in 16 games on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season.

Best joined Blackburn from Newcastle United two years ago in a £3m deal and signed a four-year

Wasnt impressed last time I watched him play, but I have not seen him play very often. Let's hope he isn't as bad as when I have.

he's the best we could hope for under the circumstances. there's not many players that want to move despite being told they'll primarily be on the bench unless chris martin gets injured.

he's one of those players that's got loads of ability but it's not always easy to get the best out of him.

when he's performing at his best, he's a real handful. I remember seeing him destroy a few premier league teams when playing for Newcastle and looked like a good premier league striker at the time.

attributes wise he's very similar to martin. old fashioned strong centre forward who can score goals.

    thumbs up from me.

He's a **** load better than Sammon. No question that he's an improvement.

Because we don't pay silly fees or wages for back-up players.

Not sure what to think of this one. Jury is out until he has played a dozen games or so.
