Everton Should Finish In Top Four This Season?

Everton fans are right to be optimistic, under Roberto Martinez they should finish in the top four this year.

Twelve months ago it was thought Everton were standing on a precipice. Long-time manager David Moyes’ departure left the talking heads speculating how Everton could see their fortunes slip to the bottom half of the table. Several of them thought that Everton would even be in danger of relegation. There seemed to be a belief that it was Moyes’ iron will that kept Everton competing for Europe.

Now we know that is not true, Moyes built a good squad rather than performed some black magic to keep Everton up. Instead we saw that this is a talented squad that can flourish when unleashed.

Gone are the shackles of conservatism and instead Roberto Martinez has allowed the Toffees to play with a flair not seen in decades. Though the results are similar, there is a different aura around the club.

Good comments in that article and spirit-lifting. However, I think we should avoid falling into the trap other clubs have by citing and predicting exactly what we're going to do this season.

Holding our current finish spot with all the extra European matches would continue to be progress as far as I am concerned. We're building slowly within admiring eyes into what is a very competent and enjoyable regime at Everton. The partnership working between Board/Manager/Players and fans has been fantastic these past 12 or so months and I think this is a time where we should enjoy what we could accomplish under that rather than pick out specific targets.

That said we're as good as any Top 4 team as we showed last season and will continue to show in this campaign.

    Great post.

We're good enough to compete with anyone, we just need to do a bit of tweaking to get to the next level.

But to be honest, I always shudder when I read articles stating that we will do this or that; it's just setting us up for a fall, or at least it feels that way :/
