Chelsea do not have a 'first refusal' agreement in place with Everton for young midfielder Ross Barkley, according to Toffees boss Roberto Martinez.

Chelsea have allowed winger Christian Atsu to join Everton on loan this season, a move which comes after they let Romelu Lukaku, who has now signed for the Merseyside club on a permanent basis, do the same last year.

It had been suggested that Chelsea had been able to insert a clause into Atsu's loan agreement that would give them chance to sign Barkley before any of their rivals were Everton to sell up, however Martinez has denied that is the case.

"No, no there is nothing like that," he said when asked about the rumours. "Not at all. We have a good relationship and a professional relationship and I want to believe that Chelsea feel they can trust us in sending players out on loan. "I don't think that relationship goes any further.
