Watching people singing this on the Proms has me even more convinced that this should be our National Anthem. The sheer love of this piece was abundantly clear and the feeling and emotion it aroused in the assembled throng would move anybody with an ounce of emotion in their body.
Absolutely scintillating, passionate and moving and - absolutely British!

Ive grown up on hearing Land of... as our/England's anthem Wokes, so I agree with you that this should stay as it is.
I actually was disappointed to hear the Jerusalem anthem played instead, at the recent Commonwealth Games.
It brings about a debate as to 'Does a nations anthem really mean that much to the people/fans ?'
For me, yet it does and its very important.
When you say this should be our national anthem, one for England or Great Britain?Originally Posted by Woking88
For England my choice would be Jerusalem, as with Land of hope and Glory, a powerful anthem in my opinion.
Just to clarify this. My immediate thought is that our current National Anthem is a bit of a dirge. I agree that we should have an English anthem as well.
Last night on the Proms, they sang Jerusalem after Land of Hope and Glory. IMHO it did not get anywhere near to raising the passions as LOHAG did. Having said that, I would sooner have Jerusalem than our current anthem.
The sheer passion that the Welsh put into singing 'Bread of Heaven' is a joy to behold and it is that level of passion that I want the English National Anthem to invoke, which is why I would like to see LOHAG as the English anthem.

Oh hold on, music won't be allowed.
Got it in one Chimpy but 30 years ? Its happening NOW but our "leaders" are too thick to see it.
Wonderful song but I'll always remember my Dad's version (well, just a couple of lines)
"Land of Hope and Glory,
Mother's gone to sea,
Father, he's gone barmy,
drinking Co-op tea"
Well, he was born in 1905 (oops, that dates me a bit!) and they didn't have tele to amuse them
I'd vote for Vatican Broadside, a Half Man Half Biscuit track...
from an Owls fan, great start for you lads, as with us a real football club, I only looked on here to see what activity there is, as expected it's busy as ours always is...real fans you see...we played Reading yesterday, so I looked on their board, as expected nothing, no activity since the 5th September...plastic fans, only up for it when they're top of the league.
good luck for the rest of the season, except when we meet of course.
ray...in Batley.
