The other crisis (not AA - IS)

What is it with these guys beheading people and then putting the footage online. I've only seen stills thankfully of the moments prior to the act but the murderer seems to be holding a fish knife. Do they really perpetrate these acts with a weapon like that?? It would take ages. This latest guy was an aid worker ffs, there to help out the poor refugees, British to boot.
What is this world coming to?

It's the beginning of the reverse fixture for the crusades. They want an islamic (or their version of islamic) World.

The beheadings are just one of thousands of atrocities, crucifixions, burying alive and starvation being the more extreme of their brutalities.

It mirrors the rise of the nazis in style and threat. The stories I;m hearing from the Iraqi side of my family are heart breaking.

Too true Sui. I'm sure far worse things happened, we used to hang draw and quarter people and make them eat their own genitals. But hey, that was over a 1000 years ago, you would have thought humanity had moved on a little.

WE went in and sorted Saddam out, WE had hundreds of OUR troops in Afghanistan sorting it out, WE have hundreds of troops dead, and many more crippled for life.
We are part of the United Nations, as are Germany France and plenty of others, why the hell cant our lads have a break and some of the other UN nations get i

The fundamental question; is the UK threatened by what's happening in the Middle East. I'm not sure it is. However, in moral terms can rich, developed nations stand by and do nothing when large numbers of people (the worlds poorest) are displaced, starving and being brutalised. I didn't agree with sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan. But I would continue to financially support those people with as much aid as we can afford. It shouldn't be about 'crusades', Arab countries locally should step in if they feel threatened by the IS. Let them do it. Not us.

I worry about the proximity to other places these events are happening. Syria is close to Cyprus. Libya is close to the Spanish Costa's. Does it effect us TT, not directly atm. But it could do if these maniacs arrange a short jaunt across the Med.
And then comes the question about our responsibility, whatever way we think about it sadly UK & USA are responsible for this mess by creating a power vacuum.
If all countries left well alone then one day this will reach our shores or effect Brits abroad so I'm actually in favour of destroying them now because later events dont bear thinking about IMVHO.

Agree that we are responsible. No question. I actually think because of that responsibility we need to do a lot more with aid. I just think with all of the combined military power of some of the richer Gulf states they should start using the weapons we've been selling them for the 30 years. And, in terms of Cyprus and the closer Med thea

Yeah but do we wait until an event in the Med happens or do something about it now?
All it would take is a few crazy's to get into some fast boats & you could have a helluva bloodbath in areas popular with Brit/ German tourists.
The problem with the likes of Saudi etc as i see it are that you have a ruling Royal Family, but underneath you probably have organizations there that would love to go down the militant route, so the Royals are probably loathe to kick up too much in case they get kicked out.
