    Awfs challenge to fix Pompey...

We’ve all had some rotten days following Pompey over the past five years says the News (a lot longer for me than 5 years ).
This was down there with some of the lowlights.
As a contest, it was over inside half an hour.
That first-half display was lifeless and appeared to lack fight when things started to unravel.
Pompey improved after the break but not much and Plymouth knew the job was done by that point.
So time for panic stations at something terminally wrong or simply a very bad day at the office?
There will be differing views from those who made the trek to Devon or the rest who watched the public execution on TV.
The bottom line is this team performance from Pompey was nowhere near good enough.
Andy Awford was honest in delivering his verdict but in his time in charge at the club, there haven’t been too many dark days like this one.
But he also knows [!]8232;criticism comes with the territory in the wake of a defeat like that.
His players may not have done what was asked o

Problem is at times when its not broken Awfs still tries to fix it but keeps coming up with overcomplicated tactical formations that fail.
He'd be far better getting our team to play to our strengths than forever trying to 2nd guess the opposition.
Back to basics will see us garner more points than the complicated crap.

I liked the quote somewhere about him saying

"Our away form is a concern"

    Well spotted there then

Nothing about being concerned with goalscoring

Mind you I still say stick with him as its the players who are failing to do the business

Awfs got a good response at the end of last season with a death or glory approach. Over the summer it appears he thinks he has morphed into an Arsene Wenger figure and believes he is some sort of tactical genius. He is getting a dose of humility at the moment which hopefully will stand him and us in good stead in the future. He nearly swallowed his tongue at the end of the post-match interview when he was asked about Reid. Lessons are coming thick and fast.

Corky-spot on. I thought the question put to him about Reid was a tad mischief making But the reality is that Awfs naused it up pure n simple. He's probably kicking himself over the way he handled the signing of striker(s) in the summer. Matt Tubbs was suggested to him as well apparently & he also turned that down. Silly boy.
But as BC says we should stick with him, the revolving door policy must stop @ some point & that ought to be now. But I remain unconvinced about the setup below him with Hardyman & Macca, far too pally for me.

I remember you flagged up the striker issues at the beginning of the season Gunny. I always take notice of what you say. My personal sports correspondent on the South Coast

    BC in true panto style

    Oh no you didn't.

I actually said we should've signed Reid, Hylton or both. Both are far better than anything we have as is Tubbs.
Reid & Tubbs were practically offered to awfs on a plate apparently. To end up with none of them is crazy & IMO has come back to haunt Awfs. Even if the board did suggest Tubbs & or Reid (when he was out of contract)PFC as a club cannot afford to look a gift horse in the mouth. PFC is & should be bigger than personalities & the club should strive to bring in, finances dictating, the best players possible. Andy for whatever reason came up well short in the striker dept.

Apologies BC but living miles away from the action Gunny has always been my default go-to option when I need a balanced match appraisal and/or opinions on behind the scene activities at PFC. He is the main man. But you can be the second woman.
