...is awful! Having seen Bradford's yesterday, our's wasn't much better. There is no grass on ours. It looks like it did when we had just built our 3 new stands and it wasnt't getting any sun etc. It seems to be getting worse, anyone know why? Its not noramly (in recent years) this bad?

I have been down to the ground at nighttime and the growtents were being used, maybe all clubs struggle keeping pitch up to standard this time of year.

Thats the thing Pat. I watched Palace v Liverpool in the evening, and that had grass on it, and looked good? And Selhurst Park isn't normally that good? Ours was more like Bradfords than anyones (and they took quite a bit of stick for it) I just wondered why?

I think it is a north south thing and down to climate, when I worked on southern grounds their pitches always looked pristine. And as an afterthought champs, could it be down to cut-backs on ground mentainence.
It's probably down to lack of investment. We spent £750k re laying our pitch last time for the Premier league and was the best investment we made. The modern pitches are more like 4g with the grass and artificial grass intertwined. Designed so water drains off immediately so will never get any waterlogged pitches ever again. They water them for about 300 litres before kick off to be at their peak.
Ewood used to win awards for the best pitch I bet the groundsman is well peed off.

a nice lil article from quite a few years ago on rovers pitch . - view external link
Maybe its a good moment to put up some old footage of the all conquering Rams at the Baseball 'pit' all those years back (for the young un's), so that they can more appreciate how 'lucky' todays stars are.
In all seriousness the head groundsman Steve left I seem to recall under yet another 'unqualified' exit some time back. Can't recall if it was a claimed retirement, or what.
Got to be cost cutting (as opposed to grass cutting)
