    Sensible solution

A well thought out punishment from the Rugby Union authorites. Pointing out that the fact that it was an administrative error was the key, rather than the result.

    Totally agree Tony.

They have made the Football league look like the amateurs. - view external link

If we dont do the business tonight and the unthinkable happens on Saturday, I predict things are going to get messy really fast.

Do you mean a legal response to the ruling Tony?

I completely agree that does seem a fairer out-come.

But in a perverse kind of way, I'm sort of glad they have taken the points off us this season.
Obviously, so long as we can do the business over the next two games (tonight hopefully), it removes any come-backs from the others as to whether we've stayed up on merit.
    The millwall gob****es in particular.
I think it will make staying up all the sweeter.
Although I would have preferred it to have been done and dusted weeks ago, this season was never going to be anything other than a struggle.

interesting stuff Tony..if we don't do the business tonight we are going to have to lodge our appeal before Friday as extra insurance if things do go tits up on Saturday..we may not gain owt out of an appeal ultimately but better to have tried than not..lets hope it dunt come to it and we can tell the FL where to stick their points

If we dont win tonight then you can guarantee we will appeal. Its very unlikely an appeal will be successful but we would have to show that we have tried every remedy before putting the case in front of the Court of arbitration for Sport. They would have the power to stop the football league generating next season's fixtures and even the start of the season. An appeal to CAS would be based on the sanction being disproportionate to the crime and would have a much greater chance of success than an appeal to the FL (in theory)

Hmm double interesting I can't think that the powers that be would want rotherham to cock up the start of the footy season for them. And surely there would a knock on effect on sponsors, TV, players contracts etc.

Don't really see how this effects us - surely it is similar to the Blackpool incident earlier in the year, in that Gloucester didn't win any points in the game, so couldn't have them taken away.

It doesn't affect us Paul. It just seems a more sensible way of doing things. The Rugby authorities' statement said that the main factor in their decision was that it was an 'administrative error' rather than the outcome of the match.
If a referee misses a red card challenge in a game and a disciplinary panel sits to look at the incident. They don't take into account whether the player staying on the pitch affected the outcome, the player will be judged on his actions.
