Fed up reading that Mac was sacked because he refused to say he wasn't going to Newcastle. He was sacked because the teams performance since the second half against Forest was, in the main, hopeless and his permenant signings were poor. End of.

I think his inability to cope with interest from another club for his services clouded his judgement, he failed to inform the club of an illegal approach from Newcastle and continued to avoid the issue rather than putting the Rams board, supporters and the wider footballing public in the picture and denying or confirming he was going/interested.Originally Posted by ramspride

He was put to the test and failed miserably

Hardly a smoke screen ... since Rush makes it clear it wasn't just on-field matters that led to their decision to part company. Social media have been obsessed with the Newcastle move for months, some of it obviously garbage since some of the ' leaks ' were obviously contradictory.Originally Posted by ramspride
Still its easier to blame this than consider the fact that some of the players just aren't good enough including some of MacClaren's signings such as Albentosa and Christie. The new manager is going to face a hell of a challenge.
To suceed in this unforgiving sport everything has to be right from the top to the tea person, nearly said lady then! Its obvious that some serious issues developed and the on field peformances suffered. Agree with what been said but would like to add
If he stayed would he be able to recover his position or had it become untenable?
Did the players he brought to the club improve the squad? Thorne maybe OK, but damed unlucky with the injury, the rest?
Sam Rush alluded to wide range of considerations contributing the decision. Here are a couple that may perhaps have been taken into account.
1. McClaren had two attempts at promotion and didn't quite make it. I think the owners will have considered likelihood of a third attempt being successful and decided in all probability, it wasn't going to happen.
2. It's not quite enough to be a good coach or manager, you also have to be a lucky one. In sport, football in particular, you do need the lucky breaks. Was McClaren looking like a man in credit with his 'luck card'. Not really, and this may have been apparent to the owners.
I wasn't saying the club had put up the smoke screen but the media, who Mac is supposed to hate, have all bleated on that his connection with the Toon job was the main reason for his dismisal. The fact that his signings have been rubbish, he could only play one way and the results in the last two months were pathetic was not mentioned.

Yet Brentwood's players managed to perform even though their manager was deffo going at the end of the season?
Is it credible that a group of players would
