Alright folks? Have a question about Steve McClaren
What formation does he prefer?

During his first reign at Derby as a coach we played 3-4-3, and for the last 18 months we've been largely playing with a 4-3-3.
Never really watched his other teams, but by the end of his reign here it was out and out Kamikaze football. Right up the Toon's street!

McClaren is an excellent coach, he can take an average team and get them playing like million pound players. He doesn't change for the sake of change so is unlikely to completely rebuild your squad.
He varies tactics, 4-3-2-1 or 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 diamond seem to be favourites.
He seems to focus on fast passing attacking play and is not a cautious coach, this can make for exciting games but sometimes its nerve shredding!
He does have his faults, defensively he seems to get tactics wrong or at least the players dont seem to understand them!
Judged on last season, when everything such as player
My prediction: sacked by Christmas
He won't be sacked by Christmas, if nothing else, Mike Ashley shows his managers plenty of loyalty. I actually think SM will do well at Newcastle, he fits them like a glove. He doesn't want to manage, he just wants to coach and their apparent structure of giving the coach minimal say in who they sign will probably work in his favour. I think he will have them playing some attractive attacking football and they have the means to have some decent squad depth which for one reason or another he didn't have at Derby.
I think they'll be comfortably mid table at least, maybe more. Wether the toon army will accept him or not is another matter.
Remember those faces of hate and anguish that saw off Allardyce? Then the same fans forced out Pardew, their most successful manager since Robson. Not sure McClaren has the bottle to stand up to that. When the going gets tough he doesn't often hang around, so he'll need a good start if he's to surviveOriginally Posted by 2.4Ram
He likes to play from the back, it's easier to put the knife in.Originally Posted by PhoneymcRingRing
same reply as I did with Nigel he's no longer manager here so not interested.
If he wants a career in the prem then I dont think he can afford to bottle it early, add that to the Forest episode and I don't think any prem team would trust him. Like I mentioned, I don't think he will be sacked, but it will be interesting to see what happens when the TA turn on him, and like you suggest, at some point they will. They do seem to have their fair share of ungrateful fans.
