Where do we go from here

Accepting it is only 7 games into the season, I cant help feeling after today's game that relegation already looks inevitable

Second half was terrible. Defensively shambolic. When you consider the manager was a centre half it beggars belief that we can't defend better than that. Next week, I would like to see Nugent left out, Guthrie in and Ray on the bench. Cooper again was poor when he came on. The lad needs to sort his game out because he is not looking like a first team player at the moment. I will not be sorry to see James jones back in the squad. Fox being substituted was a surprise. Can only assume he had a knock because you wouldn't sub him otherwise. And we need a goal scorer. But they are difficult to come by.

It has been said infinitum for the past two seasons - get the defending sorted out and by that I mean water tight. Once that is in place one can take it from there but until it happens the club are booking their place next season in League 2. Can the powers that be not get it?

Poor signings, poor loanees, Nugent a terrible signing as I said before, played for Yeovil last season and got bawled out by his manager there, players we should have signed like Coulibaly scored 2 or was it three for Peterborough at Oldham today, Grant playing superbly for Vale now and I Uche scored again there today, sorry but Davis is delusional now and sees a different team and game to everyone else it seems, and why can't we still defend and what exactly are those so called coaches doing at our club? Time for changes in management now for defo, Davis out.

I have a lot of sympathy for Steve Davis. He has to front up to the media when the failings aren't all down to him. If you went today, take a look at the page in the programme which tells us about the last time the teams met. We were in League 1 under Gudjon's capable hands. The squad that day included John Ruddy, Tom Pope, Clayton Donaldson, Gylfi Siggurdson and Luke Murphy (who was subbed for Ash Westwood). There is not one of today's team that would have made the bench on that day on current form. Today's team included ones who just aren't good enough (Turton, Cooper, Atkinson) and those who have suffered a catastrophic lost of form (Garrett).

So what's the difference between then and now? Part of it is the cyclical nature of talent coming through the academy. Some times you have a good spell (Powell and Clayton coming through at roughly the same time) and at other times there's nothing special. However, the big difference is budget.

In Anthony Grant and Mark Ellis our sc

Except that Fox had been subbed before that 3rd goal. In fact was about to be subbed as the second went in. Garrett was not really at fault for the goals this week although he doesn't look to be in the form he was in pre injury. Cooper looks poor at the moment and Inman wasn't as good this week. Second half was very poor although if we had stuck the chance away in the second half when it looked more difficult to miss, it may well have been a different story

How can the same eleven put in such opposing performances? They were good against Swindon and I had hope for today if we played the same but we were awful.
Were James Collins's comment this week saying something else. He said that we are going back to playing football this year as it didn't really work by abandoning it for the past 2 season just to stay in this league. Does this mean that we will try to play football irrespective of whether we are relegated or not?
To me, we were far too slow in getting forward again today. They had all day to close us down in midfielld and we played into their hannds. One change I would make is the have two of the midfield three sitting to try to make us a little less open. Oh and teach them how to get a foot in and tackle a player.

Time for Davis to go. I don't care who else we get in, something has to change. This is shocking.

Timmy that's a fair point about Fox, I forgot he'd been subbed. Either way I'd have preferred Grant to any of our current midfielders. He made mistakes and wasn't every fan's favourite but the only way not to make a mistake is not to do anything. Our current midfield three have to learn to take responsibility when they haven't got the ball and be prepared to do the dirty work.

Crewe99, totally agree with your comments. If we must play 4-3-3, having just one midfielder sitting is an invitation for the opposition to take potshots from outside the box. I know that 4-4-2 is boring and conventional but it would suit us with the playing personnel available. Haber & LDV up top, the Liverpool wonderkid on the right and Coco\Inman on the left then let Fox\King\Atkinson\Bingham\Jones fight for the two middle slots.
