    RIP Ron Springett

Sad to hear Ron has passed away aged 80.

I am privileged to have seen him play, imo the best goal keeper Wednesday have ever had & but for the brilliance of Gordon Banks would have been in that team & a World Cup winner, so glad he got his winners medal in the end, he & Hodgy at the Lane had a great rivalry, Hodgy himself was not too shabby.

Rest in peace Ron lad, thanks for the great memories.

Yes a true Wednesday legend. And not forgetting his brother, Peter, who died way before his time. I wonder is it unique for two brothers to have played in goal for the same sides. But for one Mr.G. Banks he may have played in the England World Cup winning side of 1966.

It was a lovely minutes applause for him at the Fulham game.

Brought a bit of a tear to my eye when I saw his picture on the score board as well bless him.

He would certainly have been number 1 in 1966 but for Banks, only injury would have kept him out.

Pete Springett worked with my best mate on the force, he worked on Park Hill flats for a time & was public liaison officer for the Blades at Bramall Lane, I met him a couple of times & he was a top bloke, a real shame what happened to him.

How times have changed. A top footballer had also to earn a living as a bobby. Could you imagine De Gea or Harte out on the beat ?
