    Kilmarnock. 24h on

There's nothing like a win to set up a good weekend :-)

If McGhee can engineer a way to beat ICT next week we'll be moving on up! - view external link

For all the hype Ross county have been getting in recent weeks we are only four points behind them, I did think it was more than that. Maybe we could end up with a decent season after all. Onwards and upwards.

Theres alot of work to be done to make us a decent team. We are a baw hair off top 6 but we are also a baw hair off being bottom and relegation fodder. On the evidence of what I have seen we still have more going against us than for us. Goals for is what will kill us. 13 games and 10 goals is garbage, second lowest scorers in the league. Yesterday was a fine example we got into great positions but our final ball is consistently horrific, though on this occasion we sneaked it. Its the relative improvement in goals against that is keeping our heads above water, third best defence in the league that's where we have improved. If we dont start converting chances we are on a tightrope all season. We are improving but we are a mile off being one of the better teams. The better teams are the ones that score goals. Partick Thistle are the prime example they play lovely football every week but couldn't score in a barrel of f@nnies and combine that with a leaky defence and you are staring a bleak

We're certainly not going to be challenging for Europe any time soon but the difference between relegation strugglers and mid-table safety in the SPL is wafer thin. Win a couple of games like yesterday and you're safe, lose them and you're in deep bother. It's still too early to say how it's going to go the rest of the season but it's impossible deny McGhee has made a positive difference so far.
I actually think that with Johnson, Ainsworth, Moult and McDonald we'll do enough - if only just - goals wise to be okay in that regard over the course of the season, it's the previous diabolical defending that gives me the fear. If we can get that sorted we'll be fine because as we've seen plenty of times before, at this level if you just stay in the contest long enough plenty of teams will just chuck you the win with their own errors.

You haven't spotted that we have the third best defensive record in the league.....

Fair point but the goals we've been conceding have been horrifically soft...and during the spell the forwards were off-form, you only need to concede one to lose.

Lost 2 goals last in 3 games since McGhee came in and as 1 of them against Celtic and other 2 away from home that's a good start defence wise

We are doing ok defence wise, if we can cut out the soft goals we give away all the better. Once we start to score goals on a more regular basis, and I'm confident McGhee will solve that problem, then we should do ok.
