Thread: Where does 'passion' come from?

    Where does 'passion' come from?

There has been a lot of criticism about the teams lack of passion, spirit and fight at the moment.

What I want to know is, do you think its something you are born with and you either have it or you don't ,or can a good coach instil passion into previously passionless players?

If so how do they do it?

Can you give an example of a player who had no passion who then became passionate?

By the way my other half is also showing an interest in this one, for some reason!

Ibs, i always thought your other half was either kempo or zilzal, but realised neither were bashers..zilzal always occupied with book, candle, and re-living past times at millmoor, and kempo delving in the stock market, nipping in betting shops, and fighting his losing battle with his waistline...so, i was mistaken..on the passion bit, its simple..if we dont get rid of the jonah, weve had it..

Basically it's born into a player not coached in.

You know the type, hates losing at anything, as a kid the type that tips up the monopoly board or takes his ball home in a huff.

We don't seem to have many of these at the club, if any at all. We have a set more interested in daft hair styles, new cars and yet another new tattoo.

Michael Keane was passionate but was also a liability at times.

It's more about attitude and a desire to win for me.

A lot of footballers don't have the brains to channel passion in the right way in my opinion.

Shaun Goater said that he won the fans over at Man City after changing his style of play. He said by copying Paul D*ckov's work rate and chasing down lost causes, the fans warmed to him. That and the two goals at Old Trafford. But Goater had the ability in the first place.

Ian Cutler showed passion by clenching his fist in front of the Tivoli before taking a goal kick. He was still sh*t though. Sometimes passion is overrated.

Roly that's not passion you're seeing, its acceptance of what she could have won.

Most players have high levels of self motivation. They need it to get through the system to play first team football. You can install passion in anyone. It comes from a belief in a cause. To get it collectively in a group of players there must be common cause they all believe in. If, in our situation, it is a belief that we can stay up then its difficult until we get some results. But what comes first? Is it the renewed hope (results) or the passion?

Just as a thought I dont think you can expect it just because the club pays them.

Anyone playing sports at a professional level (i.e. they are dependent upon it for income/survival) who doesn't have the passion/desire to win should give it up. Once it becomes 'just a job' then all is lost.
