OMG.....what a fantastic athlete what a sad loss at such a young age.... I had no idea about his ongoing illness ....

RIP to a very big fella in sport....

His family must be distraught .....

The way he powered through our defence in the 1995 world cup semi final was unbelievable! He was unstoppable, a truly awesome display of strength, speed and power. I wasn't bothered about rugby until that moment. From that moment on, everyone at school wanted to be Jonah Lomu. Nobody wanted to be Mike Catt (who i think they were still trying to put back together after being steam-rolled by Lomu) lol.

I knew that he had a kidney problem, but from his own description,, it sounded more like an inconveniece than a life-threatening illness - so the news is a shock. Great player and, by all accounts, an unassuming "gentle giant" off the pitch.
    RIP

On Talksport only about a week ago Mike Tindall was listing the players he thought were the best ever. Lomu was top of the list.

I was thinking about that try a couple of weeks back when watching the World Cup and just watched it again. From an almost standing start he avoided two tackles and then just walked over Mike Catt as if he wasn't there. Awesome power from a gentle giant.
