    OT: Am I too cynical?

Apologies for another political thread but Kerr, Walter and John are not likely to raise it so I will. This morning BBC Radio 4 news led with the story of a Glasgow Muslim murdered and police were saying it was a 'religious hate' crime. It then transpired that the perpetrator was not some EDL looney but a fellow Muslim outraged that the victim had posted a Happy Easter greeting to his Christian friends on Facebook. At lunchtime the BBC Radio 4 news made no mention whatsoever. Hmmm? Another example of our three wise mens' moderate Muslims in action.

If you are saying that you feel that the story was hushed up on the lunchtime news then, yes, I think you are too cynical. However tragic, it is not, in the scheme of things, a story that will displace the aftermath of the events in Belgium etc. In addition, perhaps the BBC are trying to exercise a bit of responsible reporting pending the completion of police enquiries and any trial (I note that you are skipping the investigation and trial process and going straight to guilt).

On the religious hate crime point, if the speculation concerning the offender’s motivation is correct, then it is an offence that would arguably fall within the legal definition of being religiolsuy motivated by virtue of Section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, thus neatly scotching the oft made claim that only white people are prosecuted for 'hate crimes'.

The BBC is very much a liberal views broadcaster.

Every report of immigrants on the beach in Greece has to focus on a poor child (usually one in a wheelchair) rather than any suggestion about how many fit males with ISIS sympathies might be also there. They pick out the immigrant brain surgeon wanting to get to the UK rather than the loads of dole fodder also in that mob wanting to get to the UK

Even simple things like the Bake a Off program, that last winner now pops up all over the BBC because she wears the head scarf rather than any skill in reporting. No other past winners of the program have ever done this.

Are you cynical, no you aren't

Well if there's a conspiracy of silence, somebody at the BBC didn't get the memo as the story is currently on the front page of the BBC news website.
