    Another old ground..................Upton park

closes tonight to make way for the money spinners to cash in on the modern day football fan.

Just glad I have visted many of the older grounds in my time and upton park was like our old den in the past, hostile, close to the pitch and great.

Been there quite a few times in the middle sixties. It will be strange for them in the beginning but it is a very smart move...like it or not!! . I havé just seen that they have sold over 50,000 season tickets for next year. The novelty might wear off in the following years but with the stadium plus the gates that they will be getting they could be a real force to be reckond with in the near future.

Not sure they will get the same atmosphere at the Olympic stadium, the seats are much further back from the pitch.

Plus it will not feel like home as they are only renting it, nothing will belong to them.

They will be in the same position as Marseille,PSG and many other French clubs who don't own their stadiums but belong to the various municipalities. The only major drawback is that the clubs have to rent their grounds but they still remain their "homes". As for the atmosphere you are probably right. There was nothing quite like grounds like the Old Den where the players could feel the crowd breathing down their necks

And so they leave their old ground in disgrace after bricking the Man u coach, the fireworks at the end did not disguise the fact that there are still a load of mindless morons among their fans.

Their punishment should be their 1st game at the new stadium be played behind closed doors.

Hi John, don't go on your site much now since you set up your own, but you are lucky to get the Olympic stadium, went there in 2012 Olympics, its great.

At the moment when you get off the tube at Upton Park its like you have arrived in a slummy middle east town.

Have a look at BBC 1 on tues night, programe called last of the Cockneys,
It is about Newham. Sad really, our politicians should hang their heads in shame.
