The irony.

I think this topic is important enough to have a thread of its own.
As a working class person, today I feel a great sadness and I admit some anger towards my class group.
I have always known that the working class has been manipulated and held back by the ruling elite but 30 years ago I thought things were moving forward.
My mum was a school dinner lady and my dad went to the steelworks on his bike.
My brother and I went to medical school and I thought that this must represent a major step forward and new world for the working class.
I thought we must be seeing a brave new world of being given previous unavailable opportunities.
We had to play our part I thought as nothing should be handed on a plate.
I thought at the time that the working class people needed to work hard towards those new opportunities grasp them, embrace them and move on with this fairer society.
30 years on and I am ashamed and saddened..I feel physically sick.
Instead of my dream and aspirations we have a working class that wallows in its victim status and makes zero effort to progress.
We have an over 50s group who have put the young people in the s..hyte
We have reasonable education which the working class have rejected over the years refusing the opportunities offered to all.
They remain poorly educated, many hardly being able to put a sentance together and all educational skills the worst in Europe.
This is a voluntary situation brought about by not taking available opportunities.
We have a jingoistic group of working class who drape scruffy flags from scruffy council house windows who shout silly nonsense about 'Great' in Great Britain'
Sadly I see racism running through the class as a norm.
I see their poor education being used to manipulate them by the intelligent right wing.
As a working class lad I am so ashamed that we have refused the opportunities and opted to wallow in our classness and today I feel like crying for what the working class has caused.
Neil Kinnock once gave his greatest speech about class and opportunity but all the new opportunities have been rejected.
It's a day of shame and as a working class lad I am truly ashamed.

I can sympathise with some of your thoughts as a working class person myself. However, it was one person one vote and the North of England in general has spoken for out. That is surely democracy.
You played the odds yesterday on a two horse race and lost but I refused to respond to your original thread because I think you have taken enough stick. However, your mention of Neil Kinnock raises a smile. He may have raised the issue of class and opportunity, but it did not take him long to take the opportunity to board the Brussels gravy train when the British rejected him.
What the f2ck do you know about guitar strings?
As another working class lad I'm proud that the people who have suffered most from the loss of jobs and indigenous industries, who have seen their income devalued as a result, who have lost a sizeable proportion of their much-needed social services, who have seen others prosper from EU membership without themselves reaping any recognisable benefits... have seized the opportunity to unfetter themselves from the shackles of unaccountable and unelected foreign bureaucrats and chosen the path of self-determination.
OP's post makes no sense.
It's the young EU-supporting people who've had a poor education, the over-50s who supported Leave had a much better education.
You dont win owt wi kids.
I've said this many times and last nights result show's that I am right.Anyone who is old enough to vote should have to take an IQ test first before being allowed to do so.
I see the sensible comments but surely more jobs will be lost, the economy will dip into recession and the government is in chaos.
This ia a terrible result for the working class who will suffer due to their own stupidity.
This will be devastating for the Turkeys( working class) who actually did vote for Christmas.
We now have the sickening situation of listening to Farage and the fool Boris all the time.
The working class have set themselves 50 years and kicked the young people of the country in the b..ollocks.
Someone please tell me how the working class will benefit..without all the lies.
Where is the NHS money promised by Boris which was a direct lie because he knew the working class were uneducated fools.
The young voted to remain and the old to stay....disgraceful.
We have let down the young people in our society and as a society we should feel shame.
Scotland are now setting themselves up for a leave the UK again and we will be isolated with a UK break up.
It's an absolute disaster and you will soon see the results of this stupid vote.
It's given support to the horrible racism that simmers away just under the surface in our society..old people who don't want 'foreigners taking our jobs'..old people who in this age commonly use the term 'darky' or worse..old people who want a country 'how it used to be'.
The rest are flag waving racists who would like to march through our streets in a black shirt.
I exclude a few such as my good friend zilzal..they used their vote in a genuine but mistaken belief that we would be better off.
We have deserted our youth..restricted their job and life prospects..All this after we destroyed their pension prospects and destroyed their chances of a comfortable retirement.
See how you feel after the next budget when your taxes increase.
Wave your flags, guffaw with delight, watch the clown Johnson promote himself but all I feel is shame.
We have the PM resigning and now a vote of no confidence in Corbyn, the stock market tanking as predicted with billions knocked off the value of major companies.
Yes!..Obviously all this is good for the country!
I am sure the young people will thank us for this.
What a terrible day this is.
The racists will soon appear on here wanting to 'send the immigrants home'
