Went to the Oval yesterday, but squally showers put an end to the action just after lunch. Young Yorkshire batsman Elliot Callis was in the squad, but not selected as Jason Gillespie went for the option of an extra spinner (Rafiq) instead . Surrey finished on 95-2. Had a couple of pints of Scarlet Macaw in the Oakham ales pub opposite Kennington tube station to compensate for the early finish (very nice too). Match has resumed on time a few minutes ago, but more thundery showers are forecast for later. Live commentary on Radio 5 Live Extra for anybody who is interested

Update...Monsoon-type downpour... teams left the field with Surrey on 164-5 . Players could be sheltering in the pavillion for quite a while yet.

Play abandoned for the day with no further score ... annoying as this should have been a "winnable" fixture for Yorkshire and there is not much playing time left. Planning to go tomorrow though, as the weather forecast is much better, and I've got a free ticket to get in.
Day 3 report...
There were plently of dark clouds drifting over the Oval all day, but thankfully there was no significant rainfall, and although there was a short break for bad light after tea, no overs were lost from the game.
Yorkshire got off to a good start with Patterson quickly dismissing Foulkes, caught by Lyth for 14, but Davies (56) and the youngster Sam Curran (58 not out) proved difficult to shift and steered Surrey to 267 all out at lunch. This left Yorkshire with a very difficult task to try to win the game with only five sessions left in the match.
Yorkshire made a shaky start to their innings. Lees (15) and Leaning (0) never looked comfortable in fairly difficult batting conditions, but then Lyth and Gale had a great partnership of 150, before Gale was caught for 61 to take Yorkshire's score to 197 for 3. Lyth remained unbeaten at the end with a fine innings of 116 not out, with night watchman Patterson 5 not out, and the Yorkshire total 207 for 3.
An enjoyable day's cricket at the Oval today, but bad news at the end though, when we found out that Middle*** had pulled off an unlikely narrow victory v Somerset to increase their lead at the top of the table

Its hard to admit it Mike, but our title reign is over and its down to bad weather and some of our players just not performing.
And to make it worse as you said, Middle*** have followed up their win over us to force another win today at Somerset. It made a change for Adam Lyth to actually do something with the bat today because he and Andrew Gale have been appalling so far this season.
Maybe, just maybe our best and surprise hope this season could be some success at last in either the T20 or the One Day Cup competitions.
