    How did we play today?

For those of us abroad and on our hols today, can someone please enlighten me as to how well (or not) we played today? Were we played off the park? Did we hold our own? Thoughts please.

Put it this way we didnt deserve to lose and could quite easily have won it. Campy was at fault for their first goal only half saving a fairly tame shot. Our goal was very classy. THey scored their second out of the blue with quite a few of our main players off and the young uns on. Thought all the defence looked very sound. Bit worried Mattock went off injured because no proper cover for left back although thought Kelly covered well. New players buzzesd about a bit and looked useful without being standout performers. Danny Ward looked sharp. Overall gave me some comfort but we do need to get more strength in depth we cant rely on the young uns. So yeah overall encouraging.

Agree Rolymiller, very impressed with today, Yates is coming along nicely and scored not Ward (new announcer please) Frecks was knackered, Broadfoot had a good game (having a shave knocked years off him )
Played some good passing football and I'm looking forward to the season start.

Oh and Sunderland had a few mardy arses on pitch

Pretty much agree with all the previous posts . Yates looks a thret and has pace to burn. We may actually have a good un on our Books there . Concerns over Mattock and Halford going off injured .Pleasantly surprised not all doom and gloom 2 or 3 more in and we are set.

We got better as the game went on they got worse to the point that for most of the second half we outplayed them, flukey goal their first, our goal was taken well on the turn by Yates.lucky rebound lead to the winner. We played the ball around on the floor and it was good to watch, every player had a good game, left me very optomistic for the season,Vaulks to come plus more signings by a manager whose tactics were good today.Early days but from a loyalist view it was good.

Perhaps we should realize that paying a Million for basically an untried Championship striker is a bit bonko when we have one already in Yates.

Lets give the lad a go eh!!!!

    Excellent summary from Rolymiller.
I thought Kelly was probably our man of the match but Jerry Yates looks a real prospect. He took his goal really well and was unlucky not to get a second.
I'll hold my hands up here because I'd said previously that I thought he might get bullied by quality defenders but he stood up to them really well.
Forde had a patchy game and gave the ball away quite a lot particularly in the first half but he improved after the break.
Forster-Caskey looked promising and so did young Dawson.
Only 5 substitutes on the bench which shows the thinness of the squad at the moment but Alan Stubbs said after the game that we had offers in for up to 5 players and were awaiting responses from the clubs concerned.
Hopefully there will be some progress next week.

Good for Yates to get a goal & a bonus of man of the match, will boost his confidence a lot.

Defence were good, best player to me was Stephen Kelly, had a great game, promising start for the team against a higher league side.

Know I've called for Yates in the side, but he's not ready. We'd get eaten alive playing like that against most championship sides. Broadfoot was the pick of the defence. Foster-Caskey when he came on looked good.

We need a Right back, Left back whose good enough to cover or make the position his own. A Centre back needed to partner Broadfoot, though Wood didn't do that bad & showed he can do a job when needed.

2 Forwards a must. Need some height & drive up front.

It weren't all doom & gloom today I'm just stating the obvious.
