East stand renamed to honour Sailor Hunter

The club has announced that the east stand will henceforth be named "The John Hunter Stand". Among his great contribution to MFC was the winning of the League Championship in 1931/32.

    Here's Eddie Ferguson's GLF Legend's piece.

I'd go along with that. Be amazed though how many current fans even know of the man. Not a criticism by any means, just a fact of life.

That happens with the passage of time. Giant figures from our past such as Hughie Ferguson, Willie MacFadyen, John Blair, and Hugh Wales are virtual unknowns. Even more recent names such as Wilson Humphries, Willie Redpath and Dixie Deans mean less and less to upcoming generations. Thats the natural way of things I guess.

Perhaps explains why no longer hear "For it’s a grand old team to play for ……” sang from terracing as no one / few can remember our history !! Twists and Shout (?) will have to do

Cant argue with the decision. I am just sorry that they have not been able to find a way of honouring Joe Wark yet

Couldn't agree more Joe Wark gave more to the club than the so called stars of today, and more importantly was a genuine good player!
