    Fa Cup memories

Nahh then Miller lads, it might sound like an odd question but are you looking forward to your cup tie with Oxford tomorrow ? I ask this because so many fans these days just dont seem to care about the Fa cup anymore and I think the blame for this starts with the Fa and the Premship.

I started a Footymad quiz today on a couple of teams boards today and the only question nobody got right was... 'Which team won the first ever Fa cup penalty shoot out, after the 1 replay rule was brought in ?'
That was your team wasnt it, against Scunny back in 1992 (hey tell me if Ive got that wrong lol).

Correct Acido - it was us against Scunny. FA Cup still special, but not what it was - remember Ronnie Radford's screamer out of the mud in the 70's and the subsequent 'snorkel parka' invasion of the sodden Edgar Street quagmire - I mean pitch!!

Footy was very muddy in the 70s lol, the pitches have improved so much since then.
Before we turned up the gas a bit last season and finally got going, we lost at non league Altringham in November in the 1st round and believe me that hurt, that was a shocking awful loss for us.
And another myth is that a good cup run affects league results. That for me is not true, most of the time for me a good cup run helps league results actually.

To most of us Millers even the good FA Cup memories ended in losses against Leeds, Man Utd and Man City. The bad memories are too many to list like Stafford Rangers, Macclesfield and Northampton.

Saw Man Utd and Leeds games in 60s and 70s - fantastic performances by the Millers...unfortunately also saw Stafford Rangers

Despite the result that game will always live on in my memory as it was the last one my Dad took me to before declaring "Never again". He kept to his word and ironically we ended up cremating him on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the game two years ago today.

Sorry to hear about the demise of your dad, Cam - my initial reaction to that match was similar

Obviously CA I dont know about the Miller's Fa cup memories (thats why I started the thread to try and find out a bit more ).
But I bet so many of us as fans can relate to that where an elder member of the family has 'lost it' a little bit.... and said thats it never again after a loss!! Was that your last game with your dad then mate ?

It was yes, 42 years ago today and a miserable performance on a cold night at Millmoor in front of 11,262 fans. Many times after that I tried to persuade him to come again with me but was always met with "You pay how much to watch that rubbish" Had visions of making a trip back a few years ago to take him to Wembley to see our playoff final against D&R but realised his dementia was too advanced by then so donated the money to a couple of lads on here to attend in our memory.
