as said before. larger sell on clauses effect the purchase price (make it lower). maybe we only paid the value sized bag of peanuts rather than the family size bag

It's now common knowledge that we signed this ridiculous and massive sell on clause when we got Ward from Huddersfield.
40 Per Cent....Who does our deals?...Is this the largest sell on clause ever?

Point is we bought him for a bag of peanuts and Huddersfield will get enough to build a factory... When it comes to transfers we must have the worst negotiating team in the Football League.
Well then if the potential profit from selling him is reduced by 40% then surely this strengthens the likelihood of keeping him to nearer the natural end of his contract?
We might get less later but so would Huddersfield.
Looks like one we thought might not pay out so took the gamble paying 100k for him..,
Now the tables have been turned it looks like a bad deal for us should he go....
Some will say we are to get far more than we paid out but.... we are losing a proven championship scorer so did the club do the right deal in the first place?
Probably did what we could afford or were willing to spend.
60% of £1m is better than 100% of nowt
......don't forget Hudders paid £1M for him in 2011 and probably sold him to us for £150,000, so the sell on clause protects them should he come good in the future.... don't forget if he'd have flopped then our £150,000 fee was wasted by us.
Sounds a good idea to business when you havn't tons of cash, it covers both parties......
We can sit pretty now with the years extension.....
Short memories.
When he was struggling and injured last year nobody was moaning about how much we paid and any sell on clause.
Just another reason to have a whinge about the club me thinks.
