    Free Agents

Clubs can now sign free agents, Leigh Curtis in the post speculating could we sign one of these five.

    Jordan Slew striker

    Jay Spearing midfielder

    Mark Davis midfielder

    Leon Best striker

    Remie Streete Center back

Would you like us to sign one or two of these players.

Streete would make sense but sounds like he might demand too high a wage if Port Vale couldn't afford to keep him.

Always been a bit nervous of free players, they are free for a reason.

Some very decent players in there but as pointed out the wage demands might be the stumbling block... I see McCarthy said Best would never play for the club again after that defeat by Lincoln... well I'm sorry for him but the entire team deserved booting out after that performance not just Best... would welcome him in if we could afford him, Streete would be a cracking signing and keep the other 2 boys on their toes, cant say I know much about Slew... but 14 goals in 137 games is shocking but at least has youth on his side

Jordan Slew was a promising striker at Sheffield United. Then money went to his head and almost before he had even made the grade he couldnt get out of there fast enough, chasing the £. So no thanks, another journeyman only interested in where the next payday is coming from. If he is currently out of work then Karma has caught up with him.

He's speedy though. Caught doing 156mph on the A1 a couple of years ago.

99% of our transfers are free agents so what's the problem?

Well how many seasons recently have we flirted with relegation? and had a relegation and a close call with the National League and you're asking what's the problem? The only recent success wasn't with a team of free agents but we sure as hell dropped once we had to go that way.

    But.

If that's all we can expect then your reply is valid.

    Graeme Lee
    Ben Davies
    Craig Westcarr
    Neal Bishop
    Ricky Ravenhill
    Lee Hughes
    Luke Rodgers

    Mike Edwards
    Stephen Hunt
    John Thompson
    Delroy Facey

All signed on free transfers and imo that season is the "only recent success" we've had.

Kasper Schmeichel, Karl Hawley and Jonnie Jackson weren't free signings but only Kasper really contributed out of the 3 (Sean Canham was also in that squad i think and we paid £15k for him but he's really not worth including).
