    O/T WMC Urban Myths?

The latest scoop by The Bugle along with Casper64Frank's tale of wild parties at his house in the 60s before he lived there got me pondering the many stories of 'big' stars who appeared at Rotherham Working Men's Clubs. Are these stories true or just urban myth? Who did you actually see with your own eyes?

I must admit at Rawmarsh Trades the pinnacle of my experience was Joe Belcher (voice of and postman in the Hovis ads) and I'm pretty sure non of the strippers I saw at Rawmarsh Cricket Club ever made it as Victoria's Secret models

Come on, did Elvis ever appear where you or your ancestors supped?

Didn't think you were old enough to remember strippers at the Cricket Club CAM.
Charlie Williams used to appear there Sunday dinner-times.
Grab-a-Granny can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday.
Billy Pearce before he went on TV.
Greasbro' Club was the place to be, before my time though lol.

ill try again..great acts at greasbro, but like frank, before my time...saw mungo jeŕry at wingy..crap..still go to watch decent bands now, and ive seen many, buiter suite, limelight, ponders end, top gun, guns n oatcakes, trapeze, cayote, wizz kid, johnny calendar, magic, teazer, many more, could go on forever, but the best, but not a club turn, the elo experience..about 25 quid a shot, but what a complete fix..never seen anything as real and a proper treat..everyone top musicians, 8 in the band and a cracking bird on electric violin.. no piped or false music..theyre at city hall in july...pat that hair down on your neck...

Maybe The Bugle needs to do a piece about the night that The Beatles did warm up for Elvis at Greasbrough.

Not a WMC and a bit more recent, but I did see Rick Wakeman at Rotherham Library and Arts Centre which was excellent, but a bit like bumping into Lionel Mesi at the NYS.

Unfortunately Casper I am, late 70s spent quite a bit of time in there as my best mate at the time worked behind the bar. Friday night was dancing to the Roger Brooks Band and was definitely grab a granny night although these days those 35 year old 'grannies' would seem like spring chickens :-(

Saw David Copperfield there but unfortunately not the one who headlines in Vegas. I believe Rawmarsh Baths was quite a venue for stars in the late 50s/60s but that's more your era

That little pose has done you a world of good. I read the Mosque street opening paragraph to the Toad this morning. She found it funny but after she turn and looked at me and said those words 'It's from that Bugle isn't it'.

I became friends with the Modley family from Morecombe. Albert Modley's sone use to tell stories of the greats and they accused Shirley Bassey responsable for the demise of the club turns. Fancy wanting a female changing room with a toilet
