    RIP Alan Withers

    It is with much regret that we record the death of former winger Alan Withers, aged 87.
    Alan was one of the last surviving members of the Notts squad which achieved promotion from the fourth tier of the Football League in 1959-60, a success in which he played a significant role.

    "he had first come to prominence while playing in the same Blackpool side as Stanley Matthews on the opposite flank."

    RIP. Remember the name more than watching him but 59 was my first year down The Lane.

    I remember some of his crosses to big Tony, good left winger. RIP indeed.

    ... I remember him scoring a wonder goal away at Walsall - cutting in from the left and firing right footed from just outside the penalty area. In those days Notts v Walsall were always needle games. RIP and thanks Alan.

    their is only two left from that team . the great gerry carver and right half john sheridan . i believe frank hill was the manager. rip alan , thanks for the memories.
