    U23's

Bored tonight so googled the u23 league table, that a lot of the one's for the future are playing in, and it might not make great reading.

They had a bad 2017, but started 2018 pretty well

Saw a lot of negativity about this on Facebook after todays result for the U23s and originally I was a bit worried but then thought logically about it and realised that yes we've had good youth players come through Cook, Delph, Taylor, Mowatt etc but they're all part of a youth system from 8 years ago if you really look at when it had the impact on them and not when they finally broke into the first team.

In that period the youth team has been obliterated by Bates, GFH and Cellino reduced to rubble to the point now where we have nothing, not a single Leeds lad coming through which is nothing to do with the current management they can't click their fingers and magic a 17/18 year old wondered, that has to come from 6/7 years of preparation in the youth system.

So whilst originally I was concerned I am looking at this and thinking we can't judge, they've had 8 months which is impossible to build a youth team in. I am optimistic regarding out youth squad, when we see these 17/18 year old kids being signed from abroad I'm quite pleased as it is clear to me our current 'British' lads around that age are dreadful because of what has happened in the past 7/8 years so it is the kids now in the u13/u15 squads that are the ones that will be the litmus test for this regime and their plans.

Yes it would be nice if they were battering teams and winning week in week out but in reality that isn't what youth team football is about. They've got a raw deal with our current U23s and sadly the only way they will find any talent is to buy in kids for that age group like they have done, if one of them comes off it will be a success, the rest will probably never see a first team game.

Yes we'd all like instant success, but they must realise the lack of quality youth by looking abroad for that particular age group.

    Elliot lol. Rest fair enough.

All those players are basically a product of Howard Wilkinsons vision and attitude to whole club development, takes a long long time to develop a top quality youth system that produces your own talent and we were very blessed to have such a successful one for a long time because of terrific work of people in the 90s/00s to set it all up
