    Sheffield Wednesday financial results

Wednesdays losses more than double to over £20 million in 2016/17 as their promotion gamble backfires.

For every £100 of income last season SWFC paid out £125 in wages and £26 in transfer fees, taking player costs to 151% of income.

They spent £11.6m on new signings in 2016/17, on top of £12.7 m on signings the previous season.

Total investment by Chansiri at Sheff Weds last season to fund promotion push £20 million in loans, £2.3 million in shares and £1.2 million in shirt sponsorship etc. Total £23.5 million.

Lost over £40m in the last 5 yrs despite them having the biggest crowds and ground in the universe

... and after all that they’ve ended up 5pts above us in the league .

Just shows how big a gamble it is to just throw money at it with out thinking

I know where I'd rather be. Money rarely buys succes (unless it's stupid money a la Man City). Look how close we could have been to the play offs last season if it wasn't for the idiots selling all our players.

I'd like to focus on Bree here Johny. We might have flogged an injury prone dud for good money there. Can't get in Villa side and may have peaked whilst with us. Sam Winnall has scored odd goal but hasn't done much, now injured. Watkins is in and out of Norwich side isn't being played up front and isn't rated by their fans. Scowen is playing in a QPR side seven points better off than we are. Roberts is playing in a poor Birmingham side, Mcdonald is at Hull City. Kent was on loan. The only players that made that team tick were Winnall and Hourihane. They weren't all world beaters but they were a good team.

Hindsights a wonderful thing. However, we made some money and move on. Maybe without the player sales and money in the bank we wouldn't have looked such an attractive investment. Small margins.

I'd go along with the good portfolio set up saving the club over a hypathetical promotion push which may never have materialised.

We could have kept our players, missed the play-offs, had nowt in bank, a terminally ill owner and nobody prepared to invest.

I'll reiterate fine margins. Yes I was as p1ssed off as anyone at the time. That scars healed now.

Scars still wide open as far as I'm concerned. We're where we are now cos of last Jan and that is facing relegation.
